In-process measurement of springback in tube rotary draw bending
The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2021Rotary draw bending of tubes allows repeatable and accurate manufacturing with narrow bending radii and high production rates, thanks to modern CNC controlled electrical machines. However, springback still represents one the main issues especially in small production batches or when the geometrical and mechanical properties of the raw profiles are not ...

Insights on tube rotary draw bending with superimposed localized thermal field
CIRP Journal of Manufacturing Science and Technology, 2021Abstract The manufacturing of hollow section profiles using high strength metallic alloys may suffer of relevant drawbacks such as springback, reduced formability as well as wrinkling, which often limit the process capabilities. Localized heating of cross section sectors may allow a significant reduction of these issues thanks to the neutral layer ...

Numerical Simulation and Optimal Design of Rotary Draw Bending Pipe
Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2007The numerical simulation method is used to solve the problems of pipe bending manufacturing such as die with fine cracks, ovality of pipe. The fan-shaped die is welded with steel plate in circle and rib in radial direction by the analysis of structural deformation.

OPTIMIZING THE ROTARY DRAW TUBE BENDING PROCESS TO AVOID WRINKLES
International Journal of Modelling and Simulation, 2008AbstractLarge metal deformation and highly nonlinear contact conditions arise during tube bending. Instability conditions like wrinkling and tearing persist in the problem. With the advancement of computational facilities and numerical methods like finite element methods (FEMs), it became viable to model these nonlinearities and instabilities inside ...

Automatic tooling design for rotary draw bending of tubes
The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2005Cold rotary draw bending of tubes is a CNC metal forming process widely used in industry. When planning a new process, trial and error is often required in order to calculate the proper overbending and to avoid wrinkling, excessive thinning and flattening.

Bending Mechanisms in AM30 Alloy Tube Using a Rotary Draw Bender
Materials and Manufacturing Processes, 2010The wall thickness strain and cross-section ovality of AM30 magnesium alloy tube after bending using a rotary draw bender were tested. Then the deformation mechanisms in the tube wall at different strain position were investigated. The results suggest that the extrados of the bent tube, which is thinning under tension, deforms mainly by dislocation ...

Effect of mandrel position on bending quality in the rotary draw bending process
Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part L: Journal of Materials: Design and ApplicationsThe mandrel plays a critical role in supporting tubes within the bending region during tube bending operations. This research explores the impact of varying mandrel positions on bending quality. Therefore, both experimental and finite element analyses were conducted for five different mandrel positions.

A study on mandrel role in rotary draw bending of rectangular tube
International Journal of Materials and Product Technology, 2015The mandrel die with cores is a significant factor affecting the forming quality of rectangular tube in rotary draw bending process. A new mandrel die is designed and manufactured, and the analytical formulas for the geometric parameters are deduced quickly and reasonably.
