Assessment and comparison of fatigue in shift workers of a rolling mill and a steel production company [PDF]

open access: yesطب کار, 2013
Background: High levels of fatigue in the workplaces can lead to reduced productivity, and increase the risk of accidents and injuries. Purpose of this study was to assess and compare the fatigue levels among fixed-dayshift and rotating-shift workers of ...

Heterotropic regulation and negative homotropic cooperativity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We identified a structural module common to some proteins that couple negative cooperativity with heterotropic regulation, two features that rarely coexist. These proteins are ring‐like and present an ordered asymmetry whereby noncontacting subunits are symmetric, and their tertiary structure differs from that of contacting subunits.

Periodic self-rostering in shift work : correspondence between objective work hours, work hour preferences (personal fit), and work schedule satisfaction

open access: yes, 2012
Objectives The main objective of the present study was to investigate relative personal fit as the association between rated needs and preferences for work hours, on the one hand, and actual work hours, on the other hand, in three groups (hospital, call ...

Desynchronization of circadian rhythms in a group of shift working nurses: effects of pattern of shift rotation.

open access: yesJournal of human ergology, 1994
Sixteen shift working nurses, (eight senior and eight junior nurses) working in a Government hospital and five diurnally active healthy human subjects participated in the present study. The subjects self-measured oral temperature, heart rate, subjective fatigue, subjective drowsiness, finger counting speed and random number addition speed 4-6 times a ...

Structural and biochemical insights into the thermostable esterase Ta0887 from Thermoplasma acidophilum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In this study, a novel esterase from the thermoacidophilic archaeon Thermoplasma acidophilum was biochemically and structurally characterized. Our results demonstrate that Ta0887 is a highly thermostable esterase that preferentially hydrolyzes p‐nitrophenyl hexanoate and possesses an α‐helical cap domain that likely contributes to its substrate ...

Association Between Rotating Night Shift Work and Risk of Coronary Heart Disease Among Women [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
IMPORTANCE: Prospective studies linking shift work to coronary heart disease (CHD) have been inconsistent and limited by short follow-up. OBJECTIVE: To determine whether rotating night shift work is associated with CHD risk.

Changes in Food Intake Pattern of Nurses Working in Rapidly Rotating Shift [PDF]

open access: yesAl Ameen Journal of Medical Sciences, 2011
The aim of this study was to asses the affect of rapidly rotating shift work on food intake pattern on nurses. Forty nurses working in rapidly rotating shift and thirty five general duty nurses were randomly chosen from different government hospitals in ...

A minimal cellulosome‐like system in Cellulosilyticum lentocellum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cellulose‐degrading bacteria typically use cellulosomes, large multi‐enzyme complexes on a scaffold protein. In Cellulosilyticum lentocellum, we characterise a far smaller arrangement, a single scaffold bound to one cellulase through a single cohesin‐dockerin interaction.
