Computation of the modes and polar moment of inertial of the blades of an HAWT [PDF]

open access: yes, 1981
The coupled differential equations of motion of the blades of a horizontal axis wind turbine are solved numerically, permitting the optimization of the design at relatively low cost.

Magnetic and quantum disordered phases in triangular-lattice Heisenberg antiferromagnets

open access: yes, 1999
We study, within the Schwinger-boson approach, the ground-state structure of two Heisenberg antiferromagnets on the triangular lattice: the J1-J2 model, which includes a next-nearest-neighbor coupling J2, and the spatially-anisotropic J1-J'1 model, in ...

Resolving the Structural Duality of Graphene Grain Boundaries

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Cantilever ncAFM resolves the atomic structure of grain boundaries in graphene, revealing coexisting stable and metastable types. Both contain pentagon/heptagon defects, but metastable GBs show irregular geometries. Modeling shows metastable GBs form under compression, exhibiting vertical corrugation, while stable GBs are flat.

Comparative evaluation of aircraft joint stiffness between intermediate and high level of detail models

open access: yesActa Scientiarum: Technology
The present work aims to compare results in aircraft joints, focusing on spar and skin regions, considering two levels of detail to understand the differences in the structural response using different types of modeling (numerical and semi-amalytical ...

An analytical model for elasto-plastic buckling of columns [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The theory of buckling strength of compression members in the plastic range has been extensively studied, and numerical methods already exist which deal with such behaviour.

Non-Equilibrium Surface Tension of the Vapour-Liquid Interface of Active Lennard-Jones Particles

open access: yes, 2017
We study a three-dimensional system of self-propelled Brownian particles interacting via the Lennard-Jones potential. Using Brownian Dynamics simulations in an elongated simulation box, we investigate the steady states of vapour-liquid phase coexistence ...

Intelligent Acousto‐Electrical Metamaterials (IAM) for Sound Source Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Our proposed metamaterial concept enables sound source detection using a single material, in contrast to conventional arrays that require dozens or even hundreds of transducers. We show that the coupled acoustic–vibrational–electrical responses in piezoelectric metamaterials give rise to topology‐governed charge transport, producing distinct voltage ...

Triply‐Twinned Metamaterials: Unraveling the Mechanics and Failure Pathways Through High‐Resolution XCT

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Triply‐twinned architected lattices transform deformation from bending to stretching of struts, delivering up to threefold increases in stiffness and strength across polymeric and metallic systems. High‐resolution synchrotron XCT and image‐based simulations reveal how meta‐grain architecture, defects, and AM build orientation govern failure pathways ...

Synchronizing the Osteochondral Regeneration Process through Spatial Patterning of Stable and Hypertrophic Cartilage Organoids

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Zonated osteochondral assembloid implants are engineered through scaffold‐free spatial assembly of induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)‐derived chondrocyte organoids and periosteum‐derived osteogenic organoids. Implanted into full‐thickness rat osteochondral defects, they promote hyaline‐like cartilage repair, support subchondral bone formation with ...

Efficient implicit FEM simulation of sheet metal forming [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
For the simulation of industrial sheet forming processes, the time discretisation is\ud one of the important factors that determine the accuracy and efficiency of the algorithm.
