Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

Fatigue Crack Initiation and Growth in Nanocrystalline Ni at Multiple Length‐Scales

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Overview of miniaturized in situ SEM fatigue setup and resultant fatigue crack growth data for nanocrystalline Ni. The presented study focuses on the analysis of fatigue crack growth rate (FCGR) in focused ion beam‐notched microcantilevers prepared from nanocrystalline (NC) Ni as a model material.

Sensitivity Study of Geometric Parameters on the Initial Rotational Stiffness of T-Stub Connections

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering
To enhance the efficiency of parameter selection in the design of T-stub connections and to achieve the desired initial rotational stiffness more economically, this study comprehensively considers a range of geometric parameters.

Optimization of the Production of Rubber Compounds Using Mathematical Models

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Rubber compounds were mixed in a batch internal mixer, and symbolic regression was used to derive mathematical models linking recipe and process parameters to ram path, torque, and mixing quality (incorporation, dispersion, distribution). Subsequent optimization with evolutionary algorithms identified operating conditions that reduce specific energy ...

Assessment of the stiffness of the upper trapezius muscle in a group of asymptomatic people with cervical spine rotation asymmetry.

open access: yesPLoS ONE
This study investigated the relationship between the stiffness of the upper trapezius muscle and the range of rotational movement of the cervical spine. A total of 60 right-handed asymptomatic students participated in the study.

Numerical Analysis of the Rotational Magnetic Springs for EDS Maglev Train

open access: yesCES Transactions on Electrical Machines and Systems, 2022
Different from the traditional railway trains, the combined levitation and guidance EDS maglev train is more likely to rotate after being disturbed. Therefore, the rotational electromagnetic stiffnesses are significant operating parameters for the train.

Stiffness Analysis for Large-Travel Rotational Butterfly Pivot

open access: yes, 2010
Butterfly pivot is a large-travel rotational flexure pivot, which can provide elastic support for the rotational shaft in several ten degrees. Because of the complex structure, stiffness calculation of butterfly pivot is always completed by the method of

Direct Metal Deposition of Graphene–Ti28Nb35.4Zr Matrix Composites With Enhanced Mechanical, Corrosion, and Biocompatibility Properties for Bone Implants

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Graphene nanoplatelet (0.1 wt.%) reinforcement significantly enhances the performance of β Ti‐28Nb‐35.4Zr alloy. Grain refinement, reduced water contact angle, and improved surface characteristics promote osteoblast adhesion and complete surface coverage after 7 days.

Development of Air Bearing Stage Using Flexure for Yaw Motion Compensation

open access: yesActuators, 2022
This paper presents an air bearing stage that uses flexure for yaw motion compensation. The proposed stage realizes motion in three degrees of freedom (DOF), which are the X, Y, and Θz directions. To work with Θz as the rotational motion of the stage, we

Molecular Dynamics Studies of Shape Memory Polymers: From Bead–Spring Models to Atomistic Simulations

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Coarse‐grained (left) and atomistic (right) models of the shape memory polymer ESTANE ETE 75DT3 are shown schematically. The two representations bridge molecular detail and mesoscopic description. Both models capture shape memory behavior, linking segmental mobility and conformational relaxation of anisotropic chains to macroscopic recovery, and ...
