River Sand and Gravel Mining: Global Drivers, Impacts, and Pathways for Sustainable Management

open access: yesReviews of Geophysics, Volume 64, Issue 3, September 2026.
Abstract River sand and gravel are mined worldwide at volumes that now rival their natural replenishment, yet quantitative knowledge of this mining activity and its consequences lags far behind many other global environmental pressures. We synthesize 411 peer‐reviewed studies published since 1974 within a new Driver‐to‐Management Pathway for ...

Impacts of Pasture Conversion to Sugarcane on Water Fluxes and Water Use Efficiency in the Southeastern US

open access: yesGCB Bioenergy, Volume 18, Issue 9, September 2026.
Sugarcane expansion, poised to reshape the Southeastern US bioenergy landscape, has uncertain ecohydrological implications following pasture conversion. Compared with improved and semi‐native pastures, sugarcane showed more conservative water use, stronger stomatal sensitivity to atmospheric water demand, higher evaporation, and greater water‐use ...

A root–soil association index reveals life‐history strategies of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 251, Issue 5, Page 2932-2947, September 2026.
Phylogenetic tree of Glomeromycota, including all studied virtual taxa, based on the small subunit region. The bar plot in the external part of the phylogeny depicts the log‐transformed arbuscular mycorrhizal root–soil association index, with values > 0 indicating rhizophilic lifestyle, < 0 edaphophilic lifestyle, and close to 0 no preference.

Divergent Perceptions of Dairy Farmers on the Role of Grazing in Animal Welfare and Production

open access: yesRural Sociology, Volume 91, Issue 3, September 2026.
ABSTRACT The modernization of dairy production, characterized by a transition to freestall barns with automatic milking systems and increasing herd sizes, has resulted in a decline in cattle grazing. The once‐traditional practice of summer grazing in Northern Europe has become a contentious topic, with the industry and public holding divergent views ...

Space‐Time Coding Conformal Metasurfaces for Multifrequency Beam Steering and Shaping

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 38, Issue 45, 13 August 2026.
Space‐time coding conformal metasurfaces enable dynamic wave control on curved surfaces by combining programmable spatial patterns with temporal modulation. This study shows that a single conformal aperture can independently manipulate multiple frequency components, achieving multifunctional beam shaping and steering, with implications for ...

Ligand Engineering for Precise Control of Ultrathin CsPbI3 Nanoplatelet Superlattices for Efficient Light‐Emitting Diodes

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 38, Issue 46, 18 August 2026.
In this work, we introduce ancillary‐ligand‐mediated growth control of ultrathin CsPbI3 PeNPLs to achieve highly uniform thickness and reduced agglomeration. Strong ancillary‐ligand coordination to the perovskite surface regulates nucleation and improves surface passivation, enabling color‐pure emission and preferentially oriented superlattices.

Indexing of grazing-incidence X-ray diffraction patterns

Crystallography Reviews, 2023
Grazing Incidence X-ray Diffraction (GIXD) has been established as a powerful tool for the structural characterization of thin films. However, indexing of the experimentally observed diffraction peaks without prior knowledge of the involved crystal ...

An Electrochemical Cell for Operando Grazing-Incidence X-Ray Absorption Spectroscopic Studies of Low-Loaded Electrodes

ECS Meeting Abstracts, 2023
X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) is a powerful technique that can provide element specific information on the local electronic and structural properties of newly developed electrocatalysts, especially when performed under operating conditions (i.e ...

PSIV-A-6 The effects of botanical composition of pasture on fecal egg counts in grazing sheep

Journal of Animal Science
Grazing sheep are prone to harboring gastrointestinal parasites that often impact animal health and productivity. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of botanical composition of pasture on parasitic fecal egg counts in grazing sheep.
