The calculation of transonic rotor noise

AIAA Journal, 1984
It is pointed out that an accurate prediction of the high-speed impulsive rotor noise is very difficult since the noise field depends on many complex factors. Schmitz and Yu (1981) have conducted a study with the aim to include local aerodynamic nonlinearities in a calculation regarding the acoustic shock.

Trailing-Edge Noise from Hovering Rotors

AIAA Journal, 1982
A method has been developed to predict the high frequency broadband noise due to the interaction of convecting turbulent eddies with the trailing edges of a hovering rotor. The trailing edge noise from each blade was modeled as point dipole noise with spanwise loading corrections. This point dipole approximation was checked by applying the concept to a

Review of Aircraft Noise, Rotor Noise, Jet Noise, and Sonic Boom

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1972
This paper discusses the papers presented in the two sessions on aircraft noise at Purdue. The first session on Aircraft and Rotor Noise included invited papers on airport noise (MCK. ELDRED) and rotor noise (REETHOF) and several contributed papers on the prediction of rotor noise both from propellors and from compressors. Two papers also discussed the

Research on Helicopter Rotor Noise

1978
Abstract : Research was conducted on aspect of noise generation by helicopters. A general review of helicopter noise was prepared and published as one part of the work. Methods were developed for the analysis of high frequency broadband noise from rotors.

Mutual Interaction Noise in Rotor-Beam Configuration

30th AIAA/CEAS Aeroacoustics Conference (2024)
In small-sized unmanned air vehicle (UAV) configurations, rotor–beam interaction noise is an important contributor to the tonal noise. The emergence of harmonics is enhanced by the presence of the beam in the very near wake downstream of the rotor. Distinct and coupled noise source mechanisms occur.
