Implementation issues of real time position estimation for induction motors using rotor slot harmonics

4th International Conference on Power Engineering, Energy and Electrical Drives, 2013
In this paper, an approach to identify rotor slot harmonics, from motor currents or from induced voltage in an internal or external search coil voltage is described. The importance of this method is that instantaneous value of the rotor slot harmonics can be determined in real time.

Induction machine speed tracking based on rotor slot harmonics using a modified PLL approach

2016 18th European Conference on Power Electronics and Applications (EPE'16 ECCE Europe), 2016
The motor speed of an induction machine can be accurately estimated by utilizing speed-dependent harmonics in the stator current. This paper presents a PLL-based approach to identify one of these harmonics and reduce bandwidth-limiting filtering operations. Experimental results show the ability for tracking dynamic speed transitions.

Rotor Speed Detection Method for an Ultra High Speed Induction Motor Utilizing Slot Harmonics

SAE Technical Paper Series, 2007
<div class="htmlview paragraph">Recently many automotive components have become electrified and an ultra high speed drive (over 150,000 rpm) is now expected in applications such as a turbocharger. In these applications, a robust induction motor (IM) with a rectangular wave drive is generally adopted.

Detection of rotor slot and other eccentricity related harmonics in a three phase induction motor with different rotor cages

1998 International Conference on Power Electronic Drives and Energy Systems for Industrial Growth, 1998. Proceedings., 2005
Detection of rotor slot and other eccentricity related harmonics in the line current of a three phase induction motor is important both from the viewpoint of sensorless speed estimation as well as eccentricity related fault detection. However, it is now clear that not all three phase induction motors are capable of generating such harmonics in the line

Sensorless Control of Induction Machines by Using PWM Harmonics for Rotor Bar Slotting Detection

2008 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting, 2008
The paper presents the use of the inherent high frequency PWM harmonics for sensorless control of AC machines. The amplitude and position of the PWM voltage harmonics cannot be controlled and depends on the fundamental machine operation. The paper examines the feasibility of sensorless control based on the extracted rotor bar slot position information ...

Torque Ripple and Harmonic Density Current Study in Induction Motor: Two Rotor Slot Shapes

International Review on Modelling and Simulations (IREMOS), 2015
The variation of the rotor slot geometry causes diminution of joule losses, noise and vibrations, which improves Induction Motor IM performance and efficiency. In this paper, we propose a comparative study of the two IM design structures by varying the slot shapes based on the Finite Element Method (FEM).

Harmonic Analysis of Low-Stator-Slot and Rotor-Pole Combination FSPM Machine Topology for High Speed

IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 2015
The high-speed machine design is becoming important due to advantages such as high-power density and small size. Flux-switching permanent magnet (FSPM) machines have a simple rotor design without any windings or PMs, which makes them apt for high-speed operation.

Development of Motor Model of Rotor Slot Harmonics for Speed Sensorless Control of Induction Motor

Electrical Engineering in Japan, 2012
SUMMARYThis paper proposes a novel mathematical dynamic model to represent the steady‐state and transient‐state characteristics of rotor slot harmonics of an induction motor for sensorless control. Although it is well known that the rotor slot harmonics originate from the mechanical structure of the induction motor, a mathematical model that describes ...

Calculation of induced rotor current in induction motors using a slotted semi-analytical harmonic model

2014 International Conference on Electrical Machines (ICEM), 2014
Recently, strong improvements have been made in the applicability of harmonic modeling techniques for electrical machines with slotted structures. Various implementations for permanent magnet motors and actuators have been investigated and applied in design and optimization tools. For the slotted structure of induction motors (IMs), however, the method
