Darrieus Rotor Aerodynamics in Turbulent Wind

Journal of Solar Energy Engineering, 1995
The earlier aerodynamic models for studying vertical axis wind turbines (VAWT’s) are based on constant incident wind conditions and are thus capable of predicting only periodic variations in the loads. The purpose of the present study is to develop a mode capable of predicting the aerodynamic loads on the Darrieus rotor in a turbulent wind.

Detection of Winding Asymmetries in Wound-Rotor Induction Motors via Transient Analysis of the External Magnetic Field

IEEE transactions on industrial electronics (1982. Print), 2020
Over recent decades, the detection of faults in induction motors (IMs) has been mainly focused in cage motors due to their extensive use. However, in recent years, wound-rotor motors have received special attention because of their broad use as ...

Small Wind Turbine Rotor Design

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2015
The paper discusses the development procedure of a small direct drive wind turbine. Especially attention to the main rotor and to the wind blade design procedure is dedicated. Decisional technological steps are described, which makes the wind turbine design effective as environmental friendly product.

Improved Winding Proposal for Wound Rotor Resolver Using Genetic Algorithm and Winding Function Approach

IEEE transactions on industrial electronics (1982. Print), 2019
Among position sensors, resolvers are superior from reliability point of view. However, obtaining lower output voltage harmonics and simple manufacturing process is a challenge in the design and optimization of resolvers.

Rotor/generator isolation for wind turbines

18th Structural Dynamics and Materials Conference, 1977
This paper analyzes the interface dynamics between the rotor and electrical generator for horizontal-axis constant-rpm wind turbine systems. Coupled equations of motion for the rotor, drive shaft, and generator are developed and solved to obtain the system natural frequency and forced response characteristics.

Slatted-blade Savonius wind-rotors

Applied Energy, 1991
Abstract The Savonius rotor can develop a relatively high torque at low rotational speeds and is cheap to build, but it harnesses only a small fraction of the wind energy incident upon it. One initially attractive proposal for augmenting its harnessing effectiveness, was to fit an array of hinged flaps in place of the curved parts of the turbine's ...

Wind turbine rotor magnetic levitation

2016 2nd International Conference on Industrial Engineering, Applications and Manufacturing (ICIEAM), 2016
The paper presents the study of advantages and disadvantages of magnetic levitation support for wind turbines. There are many studies on the usage of these devices internationally; and the real wind turbines are being sold. However, we may see not only the advantages but also some negative sides of the so-called “magnetic bearing”.

Reduction of Rotor Harmonic Eddy-Current Loss of High-Speed PM BLDC Motors by Using a Split-Phase Winding Method

IEEE transactions on energy conversion, 2019
Low-order harmonic currents in high-speed permanent magnet brushless dc (PM BLDC) motors cause large rotor eddy-current loss, resulting in high temperature rise and even overheating in the rotors, thus their application in the field of high-speed drive ...

Wind turbine rotor aerodynamics

2017
Wind turbines are operating under very complex and uncontrolled environmental conditions, including atmospheric turbulence, atmospheric boundary layer effects, directional and spatial variations in wind shear, etc. Over the past decades, the size of a commercial wind turbine has increased considerably.

Free-Tip Rotor Wind Tunnel Test Results

Journal of the American Helicopter Society, 1986
Seven controller mechanisms and several tip geometries were proposed and evaluated in the course of a free tip rotor development program which integrated those components into a model rotor system for wind tunnel testing. After a rigid whirl test was run to determine controller mechanism performance and structural integrity, a second whirl test was ...
