Study on diffusion law and mechanism of different types of single fracture grouting slurry

open access: yesMeikuang Anquan
The small area pre-grouting of water-bearing layers is often used in shaft excavation, clarifying the slurry diffusion law is the basis for determining the slurry diffusion range and formulating the grouting schemes.

Quasi-Static Brittle Fracture in Inhomogeneous Media and Iterated Conformal Maps: Modes I, II and III

open access: yes, 2002
The method of iterated conformal maps is developed for quasi-static fracture of brittle materials, for all modes of fracture. Previous theory, that was relevant for mode III only, is extended here to mode I and II.

Numerical Exploration of Thermal Shock Resistance in MgO–C Refractories

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A mesostructure‐resolved numerical framework is developed to evaluate the thermal shock resistance of MgO–C refractories. By modeling interface debonding under rapid temperature changes and introducing a modified thermal shock parameter that accounts for mesocracks, the study shows how graphite content and aggregate size influence thermal shock ...

Fatigue Crack Initiation and Growth in Nanocrystalline Ni at Multiple Length‐Scales

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Overview of miniaturized in situ SEM fatigue setup and resultant fatigue crack growth data for nanocrystalline Ni. The presented study focuses on the analysis of fatigue crack growth rate (FCGR) in focused ion beam‐notched microcantilevers prepared from nanocrystalline (NC) Ni as a model material.

Fracture Roughness Scaling: a case study on planar cracks

open access: yes, 2010
Using a multi-resolution technique, we analyze large in-plane fracture fronts moving slowly between two sintered Plexiglas plates. We find that the roughness of the front exhibits two distinct regimes separated by a crossover length scale $\delta ...

Influence of Test Temperature and Test Frequency on Fatigue Life of Aluminum Alloy EN AW‐2618A

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The influence of test temperature and test frequency on the fatigue life of EN AW‐2618A is investigated. High‐cycle fatigue tests are performed at different test temperatures and frequencies on the 1000 h/230°C overaged state. Both test parameters reduce fatigue life due to time‐dependent damage mechanisms.

Characterization of surface contact modes of rough fractures in coal and their influence on seepage

open access: yesMeikuang Anquan
To further explore the control mechanism of contact characteristics of rough fracture surfaces in coal on coalbed methane (CBM) migration, enhance the understanding of CBM seepage laws, and better support the efficient exploitation of CBM, this study ...

Simulation of Particle-Fluid Interaction in Fractal Fractures Based on the Immersed Boundary-Lattice Boltzmann Method

open access: yesGeofluids, 2020
In order to reveal the influence of particles on fluid flow characteristics in rough fractures under fluid-solid coupling, a range of fracture systems with varying roughness were generated using the Weierstrass-Mandelbrot function.

Measurement of Coal Fracture Surface Roughness.

open access: yesShigen-to-Sozai, 1991
In this paper, the fracture surface roughness of coal samples from the four coal mines in Hokkaido was measured and analyzed. The main results obtained are summarized as follows:(1) The surface of the coal fracture is a random surface varying in some places smooth and others jagged.

High‐Temperature Nanoindentation of Metals: Assessing Thermal Drift, Frame Compliance, and Chemical Composition Effects on the Reported Mechanical Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Do not let thermal drift and instrument artifacts deceive high‐temperature nanoindentation results. We compare classical Oliver–Pharr and automatic image recognition analyses across steels and a Ni alloy to quantify these effects. Accounting for artifacts reveals systematic softening with temperature, while Cr and Ni additions boost resistance ...
