Markets Mitigate Land‐Use Competition From Energy Crops and Increase Farm Revenues

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Meeting the US Sustainable Aviation Fuel Grand Challenge target of 35 billion gal annually by 2050 will require an estimated 380 million–700 million dry tons of agricultural biomass feedstock. This study evaluates the implications of large‐scale biomass production for land use, crop production, and market outcomes under mature market ...

Effects of Environmental and Health Information on Willingness to Pay for Local and Organic Foods in Taiwan

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Using a lab‐in‐the‐field experiment, we investigate how providing information about food miles and pesticide residue influences willingness to pay (WTP) for potatoes among 407 shoppers in Taiwan, split between a supermarket and a farmers market.

Topological Properties of International Commodity Market: How Uncertainty Affects the Linkages?

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The study aims to explore the network topology of the international commodity market by examining the interconnections among 21 commodity futures across various categories, including energy, precious and industrial metals, and agriculture. We analyze the market structure of these commodity futures under both low and high uncertainty conditions

Tuning load redistribution and damage near heterogeneous interfaces

open access: yesScientific Reports
We investigate interface failure of model materials representing architected thin films in contact with heterogeneous substrates. We find that, while systems with statistically isotropic distributions of impurities derive their fracture strength from the

Food Tastes in the United States: Convergence or Divergence?

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study investigates how food consumption tastes have changed in recent decades across the United States. Using NielsenIQ data for over 77 million transactions, there is evidence of divergence in food tastes across regions from 2007 to 2016 and across households of different income, education, and race/ethnicity groups.

Variable Herz–Morrey estimates for rough fractional Hausdorff operator

open access: yesJournal of Inequalities and Applications
As a first attempt, we obtain the boundedness of the rough fractional Hausdorff operator on variable exponent Herz-type spaces. The method used in this paper enables us to study the operator on some other function spaces with variable exponents.

Swedish Consumers' Willingness‐to‐Pay for Plant‐Based Proteins in Pasta Sauce: Preferences and Policy Scenarios

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper explores Swedish consumers' protein preferences by estimating the willingness‐to‐pay (WTP) for minced meat and plant‐based proteins in pasta sauce from an in‐store experiment (n = 206) and an online discrete choice experiment (n = 517). On average, the WTP was highest for minced meat.

Approximate‐Guided Representation Learning in Vision Transformer

open access: yesCAAI Transactions on Intelligence Technology
In recent years, the transformer model has demonstrated excellent performance in computer vision (CV) applications. The key lies in its guided representation attention mechanism, which uses dot‐product to depict complex feature relationships, and ...

Domain‐Aware Implicit Network for Arbitrary‐Scale Remote Sensing Image Super‐Resolution

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
Although existing arbitrary‐scale image super‐resolution methods are flexible to reconstruct images with arbitrary scales, the characteristic of training distribution is neglected that there exists domain shift between samples of various scales. In this work, a Domain‐Aware Implicit Network (DAIN) is proposed to handle it from the perspective of domain

Log-PDE Methods for Rough Signature Kernels

open access: yes
Signature kernels, inner products of path signatures, underpin several machine learning algorithms for multivariate time series analysis. For bounded variation paths, signature kernels were recently shown to solve a Goursat PDE. However, existing PDE solvers only use increments as input data, leading to first order approximation errors.
