Identified through the use of statistical design of experiments and metallographic investigation, this study exposes the stochastic origins of intergranular cracks in blown powder laser beam directed energy deposition additive manufacturing of pure molybdenum. It further demonstrates a successful crack mitigation approach with direct correlation to the

A matroidal approach to rough set theory
Rough set theory has been successfully applied to vague and uncertain data due to its approximation ability. Matroid is a sophisticated mathematical structure to provide a unifying abstract treatment for graph theory, linear algebra, and combinatorial optimization.

We develop a data‐driven method to derive the mathematical expressions of the Flory–Huggins interaction parameter χ for the swelling behavior of temperature–responsive hydrogels. Starting from initial assumptions of χ, our workflow combines Bayesian optimization, Flory–Rehner theory, and symbolic regression to generate candidate χ expressions.

Granular Space Reduction to a β Multigranulation Fuzzy Rough Set
Multigranulation rough set is an extension of classical rough set, and optimistic multigranulation and pessimistic multigranulation are two special cases of it. β multigranulation rough set is a more generalized multigranulation rough set. In this paper,

Comparing Rough Set Theory with Multiple Regression Analysis as Automated Valuation Methodologies [PDF]
This paper focuses on the problem of applying rough set theory to mass appraisal. This methodology was first introduced by a Polish mathematician, and has been applied recently as an automated valuation methodology by the author.

A two‐dimensional multiscale finite element analysis framework was established for the first‐generation MoSiBTiC alloy, and the mechanical and fracture‐related parameters of the constituent phases were calibrated through experiments and simulations. The framework provides a basis for analyzing crack propagation behavior in its complex microstructure ...

Rough set methodology in meta-analysis - a comparative and exploratory analysis [PDF]
We study the applicability of the pattern recognition methodology "rough set data analysis" (RSDA) in the field of meta analysis. We give a summary of the mathematical and statistical background and then proceed to an application of the theory to a meta ...

On Generalizing Rough Set Theory via using a Filter
The theory of rough sets is generalized by using a filter. The filter is induced by binary relations and it is used to generalize the basic rough set concepts.

Fatigue Crack Initiation and Growth in Nanocrystalline Ni at Multiple Length‐Scales
Overview of miniaturized in situ SEM fatigue setup and resultant fatigue crack growth data for nanocrystalline Ni. The presented study focuses on the analysis of fatigue crack growth rate (FCGR) in focused ion beam‐notched microcantilevers prepared from nanocrystalline (NC) Ni as a model material.
