Effect of Impactor's Taper Angle on the Response of a Square Slab to a Falling Mass [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences
Reinforced concrete (RC) slabs during their service life experience falling mass impacts which are significantly different from quasi-static loading on account of short-term load transference and higher strain rate.

Compliance evolution in round cracked bars under tensile fatigue

open access: yesEngineering Fracture Mechanics, 2011
[EN]This paper studies the dimensionless compliance in cylindrical geometries with transverse surface cracks subjected to axial tensile loading. Compliance evolution is analyzed when round bars are subjected to fatigue with free and constrained sample ends, initial crack geometries of straight or circular fronts and several materials characterized ...

Pull out strength evaluation of steel bars bonded-in to 45° in round timbers of Corymbia citriodora treated with CCA

open access: yes, 2017
With the possibility of developing simple connections, of easy execution, strong and durable, the bonded-in steel bars with structural resins have started being applied to different situations, such as shear connectors in mixed wood-concrete structures ...

Characterizing the salivary RNA landscape to identify potential diagnostic, prognostic, and follow‐up biomarkers for breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study explores salivary RNA for breast cancer (BC) diagnosis, prognosis, and follow‐up. High‐throughput RNA sequencing identified distinct salivary RNA signatures, including novel transcripts, that differentiate BC from healthy controls, characterize histological and molecular subtypes, and indicate lymph node involvement.

Bridging the gap: Multi‐stakeholder perspectives of molecular diagnostics in oncology

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Although molecular diagnostics is transforming cancer care, implementing novel technologies remains challenging. This study identifies unmet needs and technology requirements through a two‐step stakeholder involvement. Liquid biopsies for monitoring applications and predictive biomarker testing emerge as key unmet needs. Technology requirements vary by

Theoretical Analysis of Unit Friction Force Working on the Metal Contact Surface with the Roll Change during Feedstock with Non-Uniform Temperature Distribution Rolling Process

open access: yesArchives of Metallurgy and Materials, 2016
The paper presents the results of theoretical studies influence of non-uniform temperature distribution along the feedstock length to the unit friction force working on the metal contact surface with the roll change during the round bars 70 mm in ...

Adenosine‐to‐inosine editing of miR‐200b‐3p is associated with the progression of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A‐to‐I editing of miRNAs, particularly miR‐200b‐3p, contributes to HGSOC progression by enhancing cancer cell proliferation, migration and 3D growth. The edited form is linked to poorer patient survival and the identification of novel molecular targets.

Investigating the cell of origin and novel molecular targets in Merkel cell carcinoma: a historic misnomer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study indicates that Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) does not originate from Merkel cells, and identifies gene, protein & cellular expression of immune‐linked and neuroendocrine markers in primary and metastatic Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) tumor samples, linked to Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCPyV) status, with enrichment of B‐cell and other immune cell

3D Numerical Simulation of Seamless Pipe Piercing Process by Fluid-Structure Interaction Method

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2018
Seamless pipes are produced using piercing rolling process in which round bars are fed between two rolls and pierced by stationary plug. During this process, the material undergoes severe deformation which renders it impractical to perform the numerical ...

Mode I stress intensity factors of sickle-shaped surface cracks in round solid bars under bending moment

open access: yes, 2016
Sickle-shaped crack may occur on the surface of solid round cylinder under some specific reasons such as design discontinuities or material defects. This type of crack is capable to grow circumferentially around the bar and it is called a sickle-shaped
