History at the Roundabout

History of the Present, 2022
Abstract The Gilets jaunes brought attention to the existence and demands of the popular classes as other than the deplorables of the far right. This essay examines the ideas of an innovative group of historians who interpret the Gilets jaunes as evoking and enacting the unresolved issues of the revolutions of 1789, 1848, and 1871 on the

Modern Suburban Roundabouts in Croatia - Flower and Turbo roundabouts

Scientific journal of civil engineering, 2019
Turboroundabouts are specially designed multilane roundabouts with spiral circulatory roadway and physically separated traffic lanes. This roundabout layout was developed in the late nineties of the last century with the aim of increasing the traffic safety and capacity at classic multi-lane roundabouts.

Modeling gridlock at roundabout

Computer Physics Communications, 2015
We propose a cellular automaton model to study the traffic patterns at a roundabout. We obtain the complete phase diagram which consists of four distinct phases: free flow, congestion, bottleneck, and gridlock. For the six possible transitions among these four phases, we observe only five transitions.

Modelling roundabout capacities. [PDF]

open access: possible, 2015
There has been extensive research and development into the capacity of modern offside priority roundabouts since the 1970’s. Despite this, there remains a major gap in existing knowledge with regards to the factors and variables which affect roundabout entry capacity.

Turbo Roundabouts

Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 2009
While concentric two-lane roundabouts have a higher capacity than single-lane roundabouts, they have the disadvantage of a higher driving speed through the roundabout. They also reintroduce the possibility of lane changing on the roundabout and hence raise the risk of accidents.

Crossover Roundabouts

Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 2014
The double crossover diamond (DCD) (also known as the diverging diamond interchange) was first introduced conceptually to engineers and planners in the United States less than a decade ago. The concept has been spreading rapidly since that time; as of July 2013, DCDs had been constructed in 19 locations in eight states and had been studied in countless
