Rounding error analysis of linear recurrences using generating series

open access: yesETNA - Electronic Transactions on Numerical Analysis, 2023
We develop a toolbox for the error analysis of linear recurrences with constant or polynomial coefficients, based on generating series, Cauchy's method of majorants, and simple results from analytic combinatorics. We illustrate the power of the approach by several nontrivial application examples. Among these examples are a new worst-case analysis of an

Methods of Combating the Accumulation of Rounding Error When Solving Problems of Trans-Computational Complexity

open access: yesКібернетика та комп'ютерні технології
Introduction. The main attention is paid to the need to take into account estimates of rounding errors when solving problems of transcomputational complexity.

Analysis of the Quantization Noise in Discrete Wavelet Transform Filters for 3D Medical Imaging

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
Denoising and compression of 2D and 3D images are important problems in modern medical imaging systems. Discrete wavelet transform (DWT) is used to solve them in practice.

Explicit Optimal Hardness via Gaussian stability results [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The results of Raghavendra (2008) show that assuming Khot's Unique Games Conjecture (2002), for every constraint satisfaction problem there exists a generic semi-definite program that achieves the optimal approximation factor.

A posteriori error analysis of round-off errors in the numerical solution of ordinary differential equations [PDF]

open access: yesNumerical Algorithms, 2017
We prove sharp, computable error estimates for the propagation of errors in the numerical solution of ordinary differential equations. The new estimates extend previous estimates of the influence of data errors and discretisation errors with a new term accounting for the propagation of numerical round-off errors, showing that the accumulated round-off ...

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

Estimating and modelling bias of the hierarchical partitioning public-domain software: implications in environmental management and conservation. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2010
BACKGROUND: Hierarchical partitioning (HP) is an analytical method of multiple regression that identifies the most likely causal factors while alleviating multicollinearity problems. Its use is increasing in ecology and conservation by its usefulness for

A COMPARISON OF PRE-ROUNDING AND POST-ROUNDING FLOATING POINT DIVIDE ORDERS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
This paper addresses the advantages and disadvantages of pre-rounding vs. post-rounding in a floating-point register. In this day when high speed computers with long registers are the norm, one may think that a rounding scheme is nearly irrelevant ...

Analyzing the effect of local rounding error propagation on the maximal attainable accuracy of the pipelined Conjugate Gradient method [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Pipelined Krylov subspace methods typically offer improved strong scaling on parallel HPC hardware compared to standard Krylov subspace methods for large and sparse linear systems.
