Fragmentation aware routing and spectrum assignment algorithm

2014 IEEE International Conference on Communications (ICC), 2014
In flex-grid (elastic) networks, the spectrum can be allocated at a much finer granularity than it can be allocated in WDM networks. However, the dynamic establishment and tear down of lightpaths yields to the fragmentation of the spectrum with consequent increase in blocking of requests for connection establishment.

Routing and Wavelength (Spectrum) Assignment

2020
Routing a connection from its source to its destination is a fundamental component of network design. The choice of route affects numerous properties of a connection, most notably cost, latency, and availability, as well as the resulting level of congestion in the network.

On the Routing and Spectrum Assignment with Multiple Objectives

Advanced Photonics for Communications, 2014
We study the routing and spectrum assignment problem with simultaneous minimizing of spectrum link and congestion level. We demonstrate that integrated objective approach could achieve better solutions than traditional ones based on single objective.

Algorithm for energy efficient routing, modulation and Spectrum Assignment

2015 IEEE International Conference on Communications (ICC), 2015
Information and Communication Technology activities consumed 4% of the world energy in 2009, and such consumption will continue to increase due to the traffic growth of the Internet predicted for the next years. Techniques to make the core of the network more energy efficient has been proposed, among them, green routing has been considered a promising ...

Routing and Spectrum Assignment in Elastic Filterless Optical Networks

IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking, 2016
Elastic optical networking is considered a promising candidate to improve the spectral efficiency of optical networks. One of the most important planning challenges of elastic optical networks is the NP-hard routing and spectrum assignment (RSA) problem.

Online routing and spectrum assignment in flexgrid optical networks

2015 17th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (ICTON), 2015
In this paper we propose a novel method for online routing and spectrum assignment (RSA) in flexgrid optical networks based on the theory of Markov Decision Processes (MDP). This theory has already been successfully applied to optimum state-dependent routing in multiservice circuit switched networks.

Dynamic Routing and Spectrum Assignment in Spectrum-Flexible Transparent Optical Networks

Journal of Optical Communications and Networking, 2012
The continual growth of Internet traffic necessitates a high-capacity transmission platform and also highlights the importance of a multi-granularity transport network due to the flexible bitrates of Internet traffic. To meet these challenges, a spectrum-flexible optical network based on orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) transmission ...

Routing, Code, and Spectrum Assignment (RCSA) in Elastic Optical Networks

Optical Fiber Communication Conference, 2015
Elastic optical networks (EONs) are an attractive solution for backbones due to the offered potential flexibility and spectral efficiency. In EONs, an optical connection is allocated by solving the problem of routing and spectrum assignment (RSA). Based on the RSA output, a portion of spectrum—whose width depends on transmission parameters (e.g., bit ...

Routing and Spectrum Assignment Algorithm based on Spectrum Fragment Assessment of Arriving Services

2019 28th Wireless and Optical Communications Conference (WOCC), 2019
Elastic Optical Network (EON) is the promising solution for future optical networks. Spectrum fragments is one of the key issues in EON which will affect the allocation of subsequent services and the utilization of spectrum resource. This paper proposes an improved RSA algorithm for elastic optical network based on spectrum fragment assessment of ...

Routing and Spectrum Assignment for Software-Defined Elastic Optical Networks

2019
Software-defined Elastic Optical Networks (SD-EONs) combine software-defined network (SDN) with elastic optical networks (EONs) to further improve the spectrum utilization of routing and spectrum assignment (RSA) algorithms. However, some existing RSA algorithms usually only consider the hops when solving route subproblem, whereas the link spectrum ...
