Physiological mechanisms underlying enhanced performance with blood flow restriction training: neuromuscular, vascular and metabolic adaptations

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend We investigated how 6 weeks of dynamic knee‐extensor interval training with blood flow restriction (BFR‐leg) and without (CTRL‐leg) impacts performance and its mechanisms using non‐invasive methods. Specifically, we used gold‐standard methods to assess neuromuscular function, vascular function using Doppler ultrasound, and near ...

Autonomous docking control of visual-servo type underwater vehicle system aiming at underwater automatic charging

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2015
A visual-servo type remotely operated vehicle (ROV) system with binocular wide-angle lens was developed to survey submarine resources, decontaminate radiation from mud in dam lake and so on.

Tracing methane sources in shallow waters of the North Sea: Biogenic signatures and hydrocarbon transport near abandoned wells

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography, Volume 71, Issue 7, July 2026.
Abstract Numerous abandoned wells in the North Sea may provide gas, particularly methane (CH4), migration pathways by penetrating shallow, biogenic gas accumulations. However, related sampling campaigns have been largely contradictory and lack a substantial database. Research cruise MSM98 targeted the abandoned wells B18‐1, DOK 1‐X, B11‐2, THOR and D‐1

Experimental validation of open-frame ROV model for virtual reality simulation and control

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Technology, 2017
The hydrodynamic damping and added mass of a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) are difficult to model. This paper provided an intuitive modeling and simulation approach to obtain the hydrodynamic damping and added mass coefficients of an open-frame ROV ...

Intelligent Acousto‐Electrical Metamaterials (IAM) for Sound Source Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 38, Issue 36, 26 June 2026.
Our proposed metamaterial concept enables sound source detection using a single material, in contrast to conventional arrays that require dozens or even hundreds of transducers. We show that the coupled acoustic–vibrational–electrical responses in piezoelectric metamaterials give rise to topology‐governed charge transport, producing distinct voltage ...

First Japanese Record of the Deep-sea Scorpionfish Phenacoscorpius megalops (Teleostei: Scorpaenidae) from Minamidaito Island

open access: yesSpecies Diversity
A single specimen (45.9 mm standard length) of the deep-sea scorpionfish Phenacoscorpius megalops Fowler, 1938 (Teleostei: Scorpaenidae) was collected by ROV (remotely operated vehicle) from within an unidentified colonial sun coral [Dendrophylliidae gen.

In situ observation of bluntnose sixgill shark (Hexanchus griseus) aggregation, mainland Palau

open access: yesEcosphere, Volume 17, Issue 6, June 2026.
Abstract The bluntnose sixgill shark (Hexanchus griseus) is a globally distributed large‐bodied predator, primarily associated with deep‐sea environments. Due to the logistical constraints of its habitat, much remains unknown about the life history and behavior of H. griseus.

Rapid changes of the lava‐delta coastlines formed by the 2021 volcanic eruption on La Palma, Canary Islands

open access: yesEarth Surface Processes and Landforms, Volume 51, Issue 6, June 2026.
A new coastline formed during the 2021 eruption of La Palma quickly eroded, becoming crenellated and with pocket beaches, then retreated more gradually as resistant interiors of the lava were exposed. In contrast, a second thicker lava delta changed more gradually, highlighting the importance of lithology to coastal erosion.
