An evaluation of XML-RPC

ACM SIGMETRICS Performance Evaluation Review, 2003
This paper explores the complexity and performance of the XML-RPC system for remote method invocation. We developed a program that can use either XML-RPC-based network communication or a hand-rolled version of networking code based on the java.net package. We first compare our two implementations using traditional object-oriented metrics.

RPC under fire

IEEE Internet Computing, 2005
Although many successful distributed systems have been built using RPC, we have known for a while that it's imperfect, even fundamentally flawed, because it ignores the all-too-real possibility of partial failures by attempting to make the network appear to be just another part of the local environment.

An RPC facility for PVM

1996
Parallel Virtual Machine (PVM) is a software system that enables concurrent computing, based on the message-passing paradigm, in heterogeneous environments. To expand the scope and applicability of the PVM system, we have developed an alternate interface to PVM that supports client-server computing. The core of this interface is a remote procedure call

RF-RPC: Remote Fetching RPC Paradigm for RDMA-Enabled Network

IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems, 2019
Remote Direct Memory Access (RDMA) devices are widely deployed in modern data centers. However, existing RDMA usages lead to a dilemma between performance and redesign cost. Server-reply mode directly replaces socket-based send/receive primitives with corresponding RDMA counterparts. It can not fully harness the power of RDMA devices.

Aging measurements on glass RPCs

IEEE Transactions on Nuclear Science, 2003
Resistive plate chambers (RPC) are widely used as active elements in particle physics detectors. A deterioration of RPC performance with time has been observed in several experiments, after operation at high temperature or with water contamination in the gas mixture, both for detectors with bakelite electrodes and for the ones with float-glass ...

RPC: The Rosetta Plasma Consortium

Space Science Reviews, 2007
The Rosetta Plasma Consortium (RPC) will make in-situ measurements of the plasma environment of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. The consortium will provide the complementary data sets necessary for an understanding of the plasma processes in the inner coma, and the structure and evolution of the coma with the increasing cometary activity. Five sensors

Beyond RPC: the Virtual Network

IEEE Parallel & Distributed Technology: Systems & Applications, 1993
Although RPC is the current method of choice for distributed interprocess communication, its complexity might increase demand for higher-level approaches. The Virtual Network, an idealized, intelligent software network that hides the underlying physical network's incompatibilities and complexities from the distributed programs that run on it, is ...

Study of RPC gas composition using Daya Bay RPCs

Chinese Physics C, 2010
This study uses Daya Bay RPCs operating in streamer mode to investigate gas mixtures of at least 50% argon, at most 6% isobutane, and with small amounts of SF6. Isobutane is reduced to 2% without degradation of performance, and SF6 reduces the noise rate and current, as well as the signal size.

Performances of RPCs in the BaBar experiment

Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment, 2003
Abstract The BaBar experiment uses a big system based on RPC detectors to discriminate muons from pions and to identify neutral hadrons. About 2000 m 2 of RPC chambers have been working at SLAC since the end of 1998. We report on the performances of the RPC chambers focusing on new problems discovered in the RPC behaviour.
