Performance of Self-Seeded RSOAs in WDM-PONs
CLEO: 2013, 2013We present a detailed performance investigation of self-seeded RSOAs in WDM-PONs. The influences of several system parameters on the transmission performance are examined, including signal extinction ratio, stable seeding power, and features of the wavelength multiplexer.

RSOA-based optical network units for WDM-PON
2006 Optical Fiber Communication Conference and the National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference, 2006Designs of low cost ONU for WDM-PON are presented and evaluated. Reflective-SOAs are proposed to be used as core of the ONU in a bidirectional single-fiber single-wavelength topology. FEC is employed to mitigate crosstalk effects.

Demonstration of WDM-PON using spectrum-sliced RSOA
SPIE Proceedings, 2006We present a low-cost WDM-PON employing colorless uncooled RSOA-based spectrum sliced sources. Colorless operations over 32 WDM channels are demonstrated from 0 to 60 o C in 155-Mb/s transmissions over 25 km.

2011 International Topical Meeting on Microwave Photonics jointly held with the 2011 Asia-Pacific Microwave Photonics Conference, 2011
Reflective semiconductor optical amplifiers (RSOAs) have recently received a lot of attention as cost-effective upstream optical transmitters for wavelength-division multiplexed passive optical networks. However, the modulation bandwidth of this semiconductor device is limited to ∼1.5 GHz and the device is largely used to accommodate <2.5-Gbps ...

Comparison of LED and RSOA performance in WDM-PONs
2014 21st International Conference on Telecommunications (ICT), 2014Currently there is an significant effort by system operators to deploy cost effective Passive Optical Networks (PON). In this way, next generation PON is the subject of studies by researchers and system designers. Among them, Wavelength Division Multiplexing in Passive Optical Networks (WDM-PON) are of particular interest once they can provide larger ...

Research on characterization of frequency chirp in RSOA
Chinese Optics Letters, 2013Light chirp is a major issue in optical fiber links. This letter deals with precise characterizations of the frequency chirp parameters of reflective semiconductor optical amplifiers (RSOAs). The RSOA chirp properties are represented by transient and adiabatic chirps, whose parameters are characterized utilizing a ratio between the phase and the ...

RSOA as a sawtooth generator for Rayleigh Backscattering effect mitigation
36th European Conference and Exhibition on Optical Communication, 2010Sawtooth signal at 2.5GHz has been obtained with an RSOA of 1GHz bandwidth. A measured wavelength shifting of 2.5GHz, obtained with the RSOA chirp induced phase modulation, allows 5dB Rayleigh Backscattering effect mitigation.

Wavelength-dependent characteristics of RSOA for color-free operations
Digest of the 9th International Conference on Optical Internet (COIN 2010), 2010We investigated the wavelength-dependent operating characteristics of RSOA with external injection for color-free operation over entire wavelength range of C-band or L-band, which can be widely applicable for RSOA-based WDM-PONs.
