Analyses of competent and non‐competent subpopulations of Bacillus subtilis reveal yhfW, yhxC and ncRNAs as novel players in competence

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology, Volume 22, Issue 6, Page 2312-2328, June 2020., 2020
Summary Upon competence‐inducing nutrient‐limited conditions, only part of the Bacillus subtilis population becomes competent. Here, we separated the two subpopulations by fluorescence‐assisted cell sorting (FACS). Using RNA‐seq, we confirmed the previously described ComK regulon.

PCOI: Packet Classification‐Based Optical Interconnect for Data Centre Networks

open access: yesMathematical Problems in Engineering, Volume 2020, Issue 1, 2020., 2020
To support cloud services, Data Centre Networks (DCNs) are constructed to have many servers and network devices, thus increasing the routing complexity and energy consumption of the DCN. The introduction of optical technology in DCNs gives several benefits related to routing control and energy efficiency.

RSOA Intensity Modulator Frequency Chirp-Enhanced Optical OFDM PON Performance

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2015
A reflective semiconductor optical amplifier intensity modulator (RSOA-IM) frequency chirp considerably increases the system frequency response of an intensity-modulation and direct-detection (IMDD) PON system over the passband signal spectral region ...

A Reconfigurable High-Order UWB Signal Generation Scheme Using RSOA-MZI Structure

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2014
We propose and experimentally demonstrate a reflective semiconductor optical amplifier (RSOA)-based Mach-Zehnder interferometer structure for generating high-order ultrawideband (UWB) signals. First, low-order UWB signals are generated by controlling the

25-GHz-Spaced DWDM-PON With Mitigated Rayleigh Backscattering and Back-Reflection Effects

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2013
A novel 25-GHz-spaced dense wavelength-division multiplexing passive optical network (DWDM-PON) is proposed to improve the utilization of wavelength resource and mitigate the Rayleigh backscattering (RB) and back-reflection effects.

A BIDIRECTIONAL DIRECTLY MODULATED CABLE PON BASED ON A RSOA [PDF]

open access: yesProgress In Electromagnetics Research C, 2010
A bidirectional directly modulated cable passive optical network (PON) based on a re∞ective semiconductor optical amplifler (RSOA) as a colorless modulator in the optical network unit (ONU) is proposed and demonstrated. Good performances of downstream carrier-to-noise ratio (CNR)/composite second-order (CSO)/composite triple beat (CTB) and upstream bit

Optical Channel Capacity Upgrade Based on Multiwavelength Conversion XGM Using Semiconductor Optical Amplifier for Access Networks

open access: yesInternational Journal of Optics, Volume 2017, Issue 1, 2017., 2017
This paper demonstrates a 10 Gb/s one‐to‐two‐wavelength conversion configuration based on cross‐gain modulation for optical access networks using a single TW‐SOA. The method is capable of converting a signal data of specific wavelength 1541 nm to certain wavelengths of CW’s laser 1554 nm and 1558 nm with 4 nm spacing.

Amplified spontaneous emission pulses for high‐power supercontinuum generation

open access: yesThe Journal of Engineering, Volume 2016, Issue 3, Page 29-31, March 2016., 2016
The authors demonstrate an incoherent light source based on a reflective semiconductor optical amplifier as pump for high‐power supercontinuum generation for the first time. The obtained power level is about 160 mW and 20 dB spectral bandwidth is around 170 nm.
