A Rule-Based Language for Complex Event Processing and Reasoning

2010
Complex Event Processing (CEP) is concerned with timely detection of complex events within multiple streams of atomic occurrences. It has useful applications in areas including financial services, mobile and sensor devices, click stream analysis etc. Numerous approaches in CEP have already been proposed in the literature.

Theory of mind and rule-based reasoning

Cognitive Development, 1995
Abstract The hypothesis is tested that during the preschool period a particular form of reasoning is applied to theory of mind and a set of problems that do not require the understanding of mental states. Three experiments each provided a different piece of support for this hypothesis.

A Production Rule-Based Framework for Causal and Epistemic Reasoning

2012
Action theories are an important field of knowledge representation for reasoning about change and causality in dynamic domains. In practical implementations agents often have incomplete knowledge about the environment and need to acquire information at runtime through sensing, the basic ontology of action theories needs to be extended with epistemic ...

A New Sparse Rule-Based Fuzzy Reasoning Method

Fourth International Conference on Hybrid Intelligent Systems (HIS'04), 2005
This paper presents a new fuzzy interpolative reasoning method in the sparse fuzzy rule bases based on so-called similarity relations of fuzzy sets. By this reasoning method, an inference consequence can be simply obtained, and is a normal and convex fuzzy set without any limitation, which shows the potential ability of the proposed method in real ...

Combining computer algebra and rule based reasoning

1995
We present extended term rewriting systems as a means to describe a simplification relation for an equational specification with a built-in domain of external objects. Even if the extended term rewriting system is canonical, the combined relation including built-in computations of ‘ground terms’ needs neither be terminating nor confluent.

Adding rule-based reasoning to a demonstrational interface builder

Proceedings of the 5th annual ACM symposium on User interface software and technology, 1992
This paper presents a demonstrational interface builder with improved reasoning capabilities. The system is comprised of two major components: an interactive display manager and a rule-based reasoner. The display manager provides facilities to draw the physical appearance of an interface and define interface behavior by graphical demonstration.

Detecting Inconsistencies in Rule-Based Reasoning for Ambient Intelligence

2016 21st International Conference on Engineering of Complex Computer Systems (ICECCS), 2016
Rule-based reasoning engines have proven their value for Context-Awareness in Ambient Intelligence. However, the definition of rules is often prone to human-caused inconsistencies or sensor failures. In this paper, we propose to assist the definition of rules for context-awareness by automatically validating the consistency of the rules.

Large Scale Rule-Based Reasoning Using a Laptop

2015
Although recent developments have shown that it is possible to reason over large RDF datasets with billions of triples in a scalable way, the reasoning process can still be a challenging task with respect to the growing amount of available semantic data.
