Efficacy of oxyclozanide against the rumen fluke Calicophoron daubneyi in experimentally infected goats

The Veterinary Journal, 2009
Paramphistome infections are very common in ruminants and may induce clinical signs, but little is known about effective treatments. In this study, the efficacy of oxyclozanide against Calicophoron daubneyi was studied in goats and its activity tested against immature stages (10 days post-infection) at a dose of 22.5mg/kg bodyweight (BW) and against ...

Rumen fluke infections (Paramphistomidae) in diarrhoeal cattle in western France and association with production parameters

Veterinary Parasitology: Regional Studies and Reports, 2022
This study was conducted to assess the impact of rumen flukes (RFs) (Paramphistomatidae) on various production parameters of cattle in Normandy. Faecal and blood samples were taken between 1 January 2010 and 31 December 2019 as part of the routine diagnostic activity for diarrhoea in weaned cattle, including a quantitative parasitological analysis ...

Transcriptome analysis of the adult rumen fluke Paramphistomum cervi following next generation sequencing

Gene, 2015
Rumen flukes are parasitic trematodes (Platyhelminthes: Digenea) of major socioeconomic importance in many countries. Key representatives, such as Paramphistomum cervi, can cause "Rumen fluke disease" or paramphistomosis and undermine economic animal productivity and welfare. P.

Fischoederius cobboldi: A scanning electron microscopy investigation of surface morphology of adult rumen fluke

Experimental Parasitology, 2012
Adults Fischoederius cobboldi are conical-shaped, concave ventrally and convex dorsally, measures about 8-10mm in length and 4-6mm in width across the mid section. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) of entire body showed that the tegumental surface exhibits highly corrugation and transverse folds alternating with grooves and without spines.

An outbreak of acute rumen fluke (paramphistomosis) in sheep in Wales

Veterinary Record Case Reports
Abstract Twenty‐seven out of 48 ewes and lambs had died following a profuse watery diarrhoea. Initial treatment for parasitic gastroenteritis and housing animals had not stopped the deaths. Postmortem examination of an affected lamb identified vast numbers of immature rumen fluke and confirmed disease due to acute paramphistomosis ...

Studies on proteolytic activity inGastrothylax crumenifer. A Rumen Fluke of sheepOvis ovis

Proceedings: Animal Sciences, 1981
Biochemical studies revealed the existence of proteolytic activity inGastrothylax crumenifer with two peaks at pH 3·0 and at pH 6·0. The higher activity occurred at pH 3·0. The effect of various chemicals on the proteolytic enzyme is discussed.
