Physical Degradation of Lignified Stem Tissues by Ruminal Fungi [PDF]

open access: yesApplied and Environmental Microbiology, 1989
Ruminal bacteria or fungi were selected by the addition of cycloheximide or streptomycin and penicillin, respectively, to ruminal fluid, and the weakening and degradation of lignified tissues in alfalfa and Bermuda grass stems by these treatments and whole ruminal fluid were evaluated in vitro.

In Vitro Rumen Fermentation and Anti Mastitis Bacterial Activity of Diet Containing Betel Leaf Meal (Piper Betle L.) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The aims of this experiment was to study the inhibition effect of betel leaf meal (BLM) addition into concentrate diet on mastitis causing bacteria and on rumen fermentation condition.

Response of Fecal Bacteria and Fungi to Tannin‐Rich Diets in Sika Deer (Cervus nippon): Evidence from Both Feeding Experiments and Field Investigations

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
Feeding with tannin‐rich diets altered the fecal microbial composition and increased the relative abundance of tannin‐degrading microbes. We hypothesize that fecal bacteria and fungi may play important roles in helping herbivores adapt to tannin‐rich diets but respond to different tannin concentrations varies.

Ruminal degradable nitrogen for steers fed sugar cane: in situ degradability, ruminal parameters and microbial synthesis efficiency [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009

The Efficacy of Food‐Grade Substances to Protect Dietary Glutamine From Ruminal Degradation

open access: yesJournal of Animal Physiology and Animal Nutrition, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study was conducted to investigate the use of four, low cost, food‐grade substances to protect glutamine from microbial degradation in vitro, and subsequently validate their efficacy in vivo. Two in vitro trials were conducted using 250 mL bottles replicated in triplicate to test beeswax‐, paraffin wax‐, zein‐, and rice bran wax ...

Factors affecting lysine degradation by ruminal fusobacteria. [PDF]

open access: yesFEMS microbiology ecology, 2006
Fusobacterium necrophorum can readily be enriched from the rumen with lysine, and its deamination rate is very rapid. The addition of F. necrophorum JB2 to mixed ruminal bacteria significantly increased lysine degradation, but only if the ratio of ruminal fluid to basal medium was less than 25%.

Degradabilidade in situ dos grãos de crambe, girassol e soja, e de seus coprodutos em ovinos = In situ ruminal degradability of crambe, sunflower and soybean seeds and their by-products in sheep feeding

open access: yesActa Scientiarum: Animal Sciences, 2010

Rumen Degradation Characteristics of Multinutrient Blocks in Semi-Arid Region of Nigeria [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
. An investigation was carried out on eleven different multinutrient blocks in the semi-arid region of Nigeria. Three crossbred steers fitted with permanent rumen cannula were used to evaluate the nutritional value of multinutrient blocks using the ...
