Forage Quality and Rumination Time in Cattle
Three experiments investigated how forages of different chemical composition affect rumination time of cattle. Three single reversal designs used four dairy heifers and two dairy steers in Experiment I and four dairy heifers in Experiments II and III. The rumination time produced by feeding a single 5-kg meal of test forage was measured with jaw motion

Short communication: Decrease in rumination time as an indicator of the onset of calving [PDF]
The aim of this study was to investigate whether rumination time (RT) is affected by the onset of calving. The relationship between both feeding time and dry matter intake (DMI) to the onset of calving was also examined. In addition, the correlation between feeding behavior characteristics, described here as RT, feeding time, and DMI, was evaluated ...

The role of rumination, attentional biases and stress in psychological distress [PDF]
This experimental study examines the relationship between rumination and attentional bias. Additionally, the study aims to determine, within a diathesis-stress framework, whether rumination or attentional bias (or both) can prospectively predict ...

Association of rumination time with subclinical ketosis in transition dairy cows [PDF]
The objective of this study was to characterize the relationship between rumination and subclinical ketosis (SCK) in transition dairy cows. A study was conducted on 4 commercial dairy farms in eastern Ontario, Canada. A total of 339 Holstein dairy cows (107 primiparous and 232 multiparous) were monitored for rumination activity and SCK from 14 d before

Rumination and Rebound from Failure as a Function of Gender and Time on Task [PDF]
Rumination is a trait response to blocked goals that can have positive or negative outcomes for goal resolution depending on where attention is focused. Whereas “moody brooding” on affective states may be maladaptive, especially for females, “reflective pondering” on concrete strategies for problem solving may be more adaptive.

Effects of alcohol, rumination, and gender on the time course of negative affect [PDF]
This study modelled associations between gender, ruminative cognitive style, alcohol use, and the time course of negative affect over the course of 43,111 random assessments in the natural environment. Participants (N = 263) completed 49 days of experience sampling over 1.3 years.
