Runaway electron control in FTU

2014
Experimental results on the control of the runaway electron (RE) horizontal position and the RE current ramp-down in FTU are presented. It is shown how the cold plasma, whose position can be detected by the scanning interferometer sensor, closely envelopes the RE beam.

Runaway electron diagnostics in FTU

2016
Runaway Electrons (REs) are beams of electrons within a tokamak plasma, accelerated to velocities close to the speed of light. They represent a major concern in tokamaks because they are lost to the first wall, resulting in significant local energy deposition, local melting and damage of plasma-facing components.
