DIRK Schemes with High Weak Stage Order

open access: yes, 2020
Runge-Kutta time-stepping methods in general suffer from order reduction: the observed order of convergence may be less than the formal order when applied to certain stiff problems.

Continuum Mechanics Modeling of Flexible Spring Joints in Surgical Robots

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A new mechanical model of a tendon‐actuated helical extension spring joint in surgical robots is built using Cosserat rod theory. The model can implicitly handle the unknown contacts between adjacent coils and numerically predict spring shapes from straight to significantly bent under actuation forces.

Transient Terahertz Oscillations During Photoinduced Polarization Topology Reconfiguration in Ferroelectric Superlattices

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Terahertz resonances in crystalline heterostructures could close a spectral gap between conventional electronics and photonics while opening new windows on non‐equilibrium lattice dynamics. Femtosecond optical screening of the depolarization field in epitaxial PbTiO3/SrTiO3 superlattices launches a collective polar mode that oscillates near 1 THz and ...

Superradiance and Broadband Emission Driving Fast Electron Dephasing in Open Quantum Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We uncover the physical origin of ultrafast electron dephasing in solid‐state high‐harmonic generation by simulating the Lindblad equation for the dissipative Hubbard model. Coexistence of Dicke superradiance and broadband emission is revealed, whose destructive interference shortens the effective scattering time and provides a unified picture of ...

Implicit-Explicit Runge-Kutta schemes for numerical discretization of optimal control problems

open access: yes, 2012
Implicit-explicit (IMEX) Runge-Kutta methods play a major rule in the numerical treatment of differential systems governed by stiff and non-stiff terms.

Enhanced High Dimensionality and the Information Processing Capacity in Interfered Spin Wave‐Based Reservoir Computing, Achieved With Eight Detectors

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
Physical reservoir computing (PRC) based on spin wave interference has demonstrated high computational performance, yet room for improvement remains. In this study, we fabricated this concept PRC with eight detectors and evaluated the impact of the number of detectors using a chaotic time series prediction task.

Preconditioning of fully implicit Runge-Kutta schemes for parabolic PDEs [PDF]

open access: yesModeling, Identification and Control, 2006
Recently, the authors introduced a preconditioner for the linear systems that arise from fully implicit Runge-Kutta time stepping schemes applied to parabolic PDEs (9).

Rosenbrock Type Methods for Solving Non-Linear Second-Order in Time Problems

open access: yesMathematics, 2021
In this work, we develop a new class of methods which have been created in order to numerically solve non-linear second-order in time problems in an efficient way.

Predicting Performance of Hall Effect Ion Source Using Machine Learning

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, Volume 7, Issue 3, March 2025.
This study introduces HallNN, a machine learning tool for predicting Hall effect ion source performance using a neural network ensemble trained on data generated from numerical simulations. HallNN provides faster and more accurate predictions than numerical methods and traditional scaling laws, making it valuable for designing and optimizing Hall ...
