Attribution Analysis of Runoff Change in the Upper Reaches of the Liuchong River Basin Based on Coupled Water-energy Balance Equation

open access: yesRenmin Zhujiang, 2021
Taking the upper reaches of the Liuchong River in Guizhou Province as the study area, this paper first analyzes the trend and abrupt change of the annual runoff at Qixingguan Station in the Liuchong River by the Mann-Kendall test and Pettitt test to find ...

Real‐Time Monitoring of Mass and Mechanical Properties in Single Cells and Multicellular Spheroids

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study introduces photothermally actuated microcantilevers combined with optical microscopy to simultaneously measure morphology, mass, and mechanical properties of cellular systems in real‐time. The findings link cytoplasm‐dominated mechanical energy dissipation to the Q‐factor as a novel biophysical parameter.

Omitting Frozen‐Soil Effects in Hydrological Models Introduces Biases in Estimated Runoff Sensitivity to Climate Change in Cold Basins

open access: yesWater Resources Research
Proper representation of cryospheric processes is essential for accurate hydrological simulation in cold mountainous catchments. Frozen soil, a key cryospheric element, is sometimes overlooked in hydrological models, and its hydrological influence ...

Alternative Policy Designs to Help Farmers Select Profitable Conservation Practices

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Voluntary private carbon initiatives (VPCIs) promote the implementation of agricultural conservation practices that mitigate emissions of greenhouse gases (GHGs) via financial incentives to participating farmers. Simultaneously, an array of public policies supports the adoption of conservation practices through technical and financial ...

Cost‐Benefit Analysis of the European Union Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism in Fertilizer Trade

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The carbon border adjustment mechanism (CBAM), launching 2026, will charge EU importers for embedded carbon emissions, aiming to reduce emissions but raising import costs. Shifts in demand following implementation may reduce carbon emissions, but importers will bear the cost of increased prices.

Does Contract Farming Reduce Pesticide Use? Panel Data Evidence From Smallholder Farmers in China

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The inappropriate and excessive use of pesticides poses a major threat to human and ecosystem health in the agri‐food sector. While existing studies have examined the potential of contract farming to address this issue, most have focused on large‐scale farms and relied on small or transactional datasets, often leaving the role of crop‐specific

Accelerating Phosphate Transport Across Membranes via Synergistic Chemical‐Electrochemical Carriers

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
A new membrane design principle based on synergistic chemical and electrochemical carriers is proposed to construct an electro‐driven carrier‐conducting membrane for high‐throughput phosphate transport. Monodispersed ferrihydrite nanoparticles embedded within the membrane act as built‐in phosphate carriers, enabling accelerated phosphate migration via ...
