Aircraft runway excursion prediction model based on exponential weight

2016 11th International Conference on Reliability, Maintainability and Safety (ICRMS), 2016
Existing problems in the prediction methods for aircraft runway excursion are analyzed in this study and summarized in this paper. Based on the cause factors, process events, and internal mechanism of runway excursion, through event analysis, expert discussion, and other methods, the prediction index system is established.

Anatomy of a No-Equipment-Failed (NEF) ICNS system malfunction: The case of Singapore Airlines SQ-327 Runway Excursion

2019 Integrated Communications, Navigation and Surveillance Conference (ICNS), 2019
Complex systems-of-systems are characterized by emergent behavior resulting from the interaction of behaviorally complex, distributed, autonomous sub-systems or agents. Although the individual subsystems (e.g. Instrument Landing System, aircraft) are certified to high levels of reliability (e.g.

Runway excursions: Bearing strength measurement concerns

2019 IEEE/AIAA 38th Digital Avionics Systems Conference (DASC), 2019
This paper deals with the application of an old device and its measuring procedures for the bearing strength assessment of unpaved airport surfaces. Pros and cons relating to the current needs and restrictions put upon airport authorities are investigated and discussed in detail.

Human risk factors associated with pilots in runway excursions

Accident Analysis & Prevention, 2016
A breakdown analysis of civil aviation accidents worldwide indicates that the occurrence of runway excursions represents the largest portion among all aviation occurrence categories. This study examines the human risk factors associated with pilots in runway excursions, by applying a SHELLO model to categorize the human risk factors and to evaluate the

Predicting the Severity of Runway Excursions from Aviation Safety Reports

Journal of Aerospace Information Systems, 2023
Despite all technological advances, runway excursions (REs) remain among the most frequent aviation accidents. Several factors have been shown to contribute to RE incidents. Although different studies have addressed the prediction of REs using quantitative data, the present study contributes to RE research by applying advanced quantitative analysis ...
