Statistical methods for modeling the risk of runway excursions
Journal of Risk Research, 2013The goals of this paper are to: (i) enhance the manner in which fatal airport runway excursions are modeled and quantified and (ii) explore a means to mitigate their occurrence and severity. While other research in predicting runway excursions has focused on the type of excursion, this work focuses on predicting if the excursion will generate ...

A Bayesian-Network-based Approach to Risk Analysis in Runway Excursions
Journal of Navigation, 2019Aircraft accidents are extremely rare in the aviation sector. However, their consequences can be very dramatic. One of the most important problems is runway excursions, when an aircraft exceeds the end (overrun) or the side (veer-off) of the runway.

An Application of the Improved Models for Risk Assessment of Runway Excursion in Korea
Advanced Science and Technology Letters, 2016Preventative risk controls are the most important way to reduce the likelihood and consequences of runway excursions. This Study focused on the risk frequency about a case airport which does not meet the 'Runway end safety area' requirement of ICAO SARPs and Korea standards and used 'RSA risk model' for estimating the risk frequency.

A continuous growth in air transport industry over the recent decades increases the probability of occurrence of accidents and consequently the need of aviation risk and safety assessments. In order to assess the risks related to aircraft ground operations, all the influencing variables that can affect the safety of maneuvers should be determined ...

Comparing runway excursion factors
2013The purpose of this study was to examine causal factors that result in landing runway excursion accidents, which account for a high percentage of aircraft accidents. The project first worked to compare two independent studies for similarities and differences in the causal and contributing factors that result in landing overrun and veer off excursions ...
