Place-based innovation for sustainable and resilient human systems

open access: yesSustainable Earth Reviews
This paper critically examines fail-fast culture and its compatibility with fragile contexts. It argues that to address complex global challenges, a nuanced ‘fail well’ approach is required. Drawing on the Gothenburg innovation ecosystem—among others—the

Virulence and Genetic Diversity of Puccinia spp., Causal Agents of Rust on Switchgrass (Panicum virgatum L.) in the USA

open access: yesPathogens
Switchgrass (Panicum virgatum L.) is an important cellulosic biofuel grass native to North America. Rust, caused by Puccinia spp. is the most predominant disease of switchgrass and has the potential to impact biomass conversion.

Using DNA marker to identify groundnut hybrid in groundnut rust resistance research [PDF]

open access: yesSongklanakarin Journal of Science and Technology (SJST), 2004
There are many important steps in breeding for rust resistant groundnut cultivar e.g. evaluation of resistance levels, and population building. Groundnut is self-pollinated crop, it has a high rate of self- pollination in the breeding program. The use of

Variation and Correlations among European and North American Orchardgrass Germplasm for Herbage Yield and Nutritive Value

open access: yesAgronomy, 2016
Efforts to improve water-soluble carbohydrate (WSC) concentrations are common in perennial forage grass breeding. Perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne) breeding has been very successful in developing new cultivars with high WSC and high agronomic ...

Linkage disequilibrium mapping and tagging in sugarcane : [Abstract W233] [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Linkage disequilibrium (LD) in crops, established by domestication and early breeding, can be a valuable basis for mapping the genome. We have assessed LD in sugarcane (Saccharum spp), characterized by one of the most complex crop genomes, with its high ...

Mechanically Deposited Wear‐Resistant Amorphous Zr55Cu30Al10Ni5 Coatings

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mechanically deposited from glassy ribbons, the Zr55Cu30Al10Ni5 amorphous coating formed a hard, continuous layer on AISI 1010 steel, tripling substrate hardness, lowering friction, and reducing wear. Despite its rough surface, it showed friction and wear behavior comparable to the crystalline alloy, highlighting its strong potential as a durable ...
