Sampling ryegrass to assess the risk of annual ryegrass toxicity

Australian Veterinary Journal, 1993
SUMMARY Most stock losses caused by annual ryegrass toxicity occur because stockowners unknowingly allow their stock to graze annual ryegrass (Lollum rigidum) Infected with the bacterium Clavlbacter toxicus. To help stockowners avoid losses we have developed criteria for a testing service to determine the risk of poisoning before the pasture is grazed.

The role of perennial ryegrass endophyte in Italian ryegrass

NZGA: Research and Practice Series, 2006
Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum) and short-term hybrid ryegrass (L. boucheanum) have reliable establishment and high cool season growth, but varying persistence after the first summer. In Northland, there is increased stress on ryegrass from invertebrate insect attack.

Ryegrass Staggers: The Presence of Lolitrem Neurotoxins in Perennial Ryegrass Seed

New Zealand Veterinary Journal, 1982
Abstract Extract Sir:- Recently, two potent neurotoxins named lolitrem A and lolitrem B were isolated from herbage collected from pastures on which the livestock disorder ryegrass staggers (RGS) occurred. et al.(1) We now wish to report that samples of perennial rygrass (Loliun yeretzrze L.) seed obtained from several locations in New Zealand contained

Tetraploid Westerwolths ryegrass

Euphytica, 1955
Germinated seeds of the annual Westerwolths ryegrass were treated with colchicine-solutions of 0.05 to 0.4% at a temperature of 29°C in order to obtain autotetraploids. The best results were obtained after treatment for 2 hours with 0.1 and 0.2% solutions or 4 hours with 0.05%.

Prevention of Ryegrass Staggers

New Zealand Veterinary Journal, 1982
Abstract Extract Sir:- We recently obtained some interesting results in significantly reducing ryegrass staggers (RGS) in young Friesian calves by preventative drenching with Nutrimol (liquid seaweed animal health aid).

Transgenic Ryegrasses(Loliumspp.)

2000
Ryegrasses (Lolium spp.), together with the closely related fescues (Festucaspp.), are of significant value in temperate grasslands (Jauhar 1993). The commercially most important ryegrasses are Italian or annual ryegrass (L. multiflorum Lam.) and perennial ryegrass (L. perenne L.). They are the key forage species in countries where livestock production

Haploidy in ryegrass

1997
Both Lolium perenne and L. multiflorum are strong outbreeders that exhibit severe inbreeding depression (Bean & Yok-Hwa, 1972; Matzk, 1974) and possess a strict gametophytic self-incompatibility system which involves two major gene loci with modification by the genetic background (Lawrence et al., 1983).

Toluene Biofiltration Enhanced by Ryegrass

Bulletin of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology, 2013
Toluene biofiltration by microorganisms (an unplanted treatment) and by the combination of ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.) and microorganisms (a planted treatment) was investigated in this study. The results showed that toluene was completely removed by the unplanted and the planted biofilters in less than 0.2 g m⁻³ inlet toluene concentration.
