Trisomics of ryegrass and their transmission
Theoretical and Applied Genetics, 1981Primary trisomics of perennial ryegrass, Lolium perenne L., were studied for meiotic behaviour, fertility, morphology and trisome transmission. Trisomics differed from each other in mean meiotic association, pollen fertility, seed set and morphology. The combined cytomorphological data suggested that the investigated trisomic plants included trisomes 2

The role of perennial ryegrass endophyte in Italian ryegrass
NZGA: Research and Practice Series, 2006Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum) and short-term hybrid ryegrass (L. boucheanum) have reliable establishment and high cool season growth, but varying persistence after the first summer. In Northland, there is increased stress on ryegrass from invertebrate insect attack.

Ryegrass Staggers: The Presence of Lolitrem Neurotoxins in Perennial Ryegrass Seed
New Zealand Veterinary Journal, 1982Abstract Extract Sir:- Recently, two potent neurotoxins named lolitrem A and lolitrem B were isolated from herbage collected from pastures on which the livestock disorder ryegrass staggers (RGS) occurred. et al.(1) We now wish to report that samples of perennial rygrass (Loliun yeretzrze L.) seed obtained from several locations in New Zealand contained

Trisomics and aneuploids of ryegrass
Theoretical and Applied Genetics, 1972Primary trisomics (2 n + 1 = 15), double trisomics (2 n + 1 + 1 = 16) and aneuploids with 24 to 30 chromosomes, as well as a diploid and tetraploids, were found in the progeny of a hypertriploid (2 n = 22) plant of perennial ryegrass, Lolium perenne L.

Prevention of Ryegrass Staggers
New Zealand Veterinary Journal, 1982Abstract Extract Sir:- We recently obtained some interesting results in significantly reducing ryegrass staggers (RGS) in young Friesian calves by preventative drenching with Nutrimol (liquid seaweed animal health aid).

Both Lolium perenne and L. multiflorum are strong outbreeders that exhibit severe inbreeding depression (Bean & Yok-Hwa, 1972; Matzk, 1974) and possess a strict gametophytic self-incompatibility system which involves two major gene loci with modification by the genetic background (Lawrence et al., 1983).

Effect of ryegrass mosaic virus on the quality of perennial ryegrass
Annals of Applied Biology, 1979SUMMARYIn 1976 fields of perennial ryegrass located on two farms in the west of Scotland were found to be far more severely and extensively infected by ryegrass mosaic virus (RMV) than had been seen in earlier surveys of ryegrass fields in 1972 and 1973.The chemical analysis of samples of ryegrass from 10 of the fields examined in 1976 showed that RMV ...

The Persistence of Tetraploid Perennial Ryegrass in a Mixture with Diploid Perennial Ryegrass
Journal of Agronomy and Crop Science, 1988AbstractAn investigation was carried out into the survival of two tetraploid varieties of perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.), sown in a mixture with a diploid and very intensively grazed for over five years.Mixture M1 consisted of the late heading varieties Meltra and Vigor, and mixture M2 of the early heading varieties Merlinda and Melino. The ...

The role of Penicillia in ryegrass staggers
Research in Veterinary Science, 1978Tremorgenic strains of Penicillium verrucosum var cyclopium, P canescens, P janthinellum, P novaezeelandiae and P estinogenum were isolated from the faeces of 15 of 23 affected sheep and cattle in eight of nine field outbreaks of ryegrass staggers.

The mode of action of ryegrass ribonuclease
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta, 1959Abstract The mode of action of ryegrass ribonuclease has been studied, using different ribonucleic acids, polymers synthesized by bacterial polynucleotide phosphorylase, certain oligoribonucleotides, model substrates and nucleoside 2′,3′-cyclic phosphates.
