How Do Chain Governance and Fair Trade Matter? A S-LCA Methodological Proposal Applied to Food Products from Belgian Alternative Chains (Part 2)

open access: yesResources, 2019
Alternative food networks (AFNs) have emerged to improve both environmental and socio-economic aspects of food provisioning, including the living and working conditions of farmers.

CO2 Reduction on Copper‐Nitrogen‐Doped Carbon Catalysts Tuned by Pulsed Potential Electrolysis: Effect of Pulse Potential

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that pulsed potential electrolysis significantly improves CO2 reduction performance on copper‐nitrogen doped carbon electrodes. The formation of cationic copper sites and metallic clusters as a function of applied intermittent potential leads to notable selectivity changes compared to potentiostatic reduction.

Upcycling of Disposable Face Masks into Water‐Resistant and Flame Retardant Foams

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Disposable mask waste is upcycled into lightweight polypropylene‐based foams with tunable porosity and composite architectures reinforced by ear‐loop fibers. The sustainable solvent‐based process enables upcycling rates of 91% and solvent recovery of >90%.

Education in 'life cycle sustainability assessment': caring for all 3 P's in one [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Starting from the observation that externalities, reflecting societal concerns, emerge from costs and benefits which are not reflected in the market price, the authors of the paper emphasize the importance in education of life cycle sustainability ...

Spin‐Dependent Generation of Surface‐Bound Radicals Toward Selective and Long‐Lasting Water Purification

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study develops a novel atomic engineering strategy to fine‐tune the spin state of α‐Fe2O3 catalysts toward a medium‐spin state, thereby modulating peroxymonosulfate activation and selectively yielding surface‐bound radicals. Compared with free radicals, surface‐bound radicals exhibit moderated oxidation potential, extended lifespan, surface ...

Metronidazole‐Loaded Cyclodextrin Nanogels for Antibacterial Therapy and Microbiota Regulation in Periodontitis

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A methacrylamide β‐cyclodextrin‐based nanogel (MACD nGel) is developed to load the antimicrobial drug Metronidazole (MNZ) for topical delivery for the treatment of periodontitis. It is demonstrated that cyclodextrin nanogel (nGel) loaded with metronidazole provides an efficient drug delivery route but also has potential clinical applications and offers

Immunohistochemical mapping of thymic microenvironment in sterlet (Acipenser ruthenus)

open access: yesVeterinární Medicína, 2020
In this study, we describe the immunohistochemical characterisation of the thymus, the main lymphoid organ, in sturgeon. The wide range cytokeratin, vimentin, S-100 protein, LCA (CD45) and CD3 were selected as the immunohistochemical markers to map the ...
