A Unified Theory for $S$-Parameter Uncertainty Evaluation
IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques, 2012An analytical approach to compute the uncertainty of multiport scattering parameter measurements is presented. First, the various uncertainty causes from the noise to the standard definitions are modeled and characterized, then the uncertainty propagation up to the device-under-test measurement is computed.

This paper presents generalization of scattering parameters to nonlinear circuits, overviews their applications and discusses their limitations. Those limitations were not a problem as long as the devices under test were matched at all ports. However the software tools that allow arbitrary settings can be easily misused.
