Isolation of Multidrug Resistant Bacteria from Patients Medical Charts

open access: yesJournal of Nepal Health Research Council, 2017
Background: Patient’s medical charts in hospitals are potentially contaminated by pathogenic bacteria and might act as vehicles for transmission of bacterial infections. This study was aimed to determine the rate of contamination of medical charts by ...

Stage‐Adaptive Janus Microneedle System for Redox‐Immune Regulation and Mitochondrial Protection in Infected Diabetic Wound Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Infected diabetic wounds are sustained by a vicious cycle of hyperglycemia‐driven bacterial infection, persistent oxidative stress, and excessive inflammation, which collectively disrupt the ordered progression of tissue repair. Here, we engineered a stage‐adaptive Janus microneedle patch (MN‐FeSAC‐PPE) to enable a staged therapeutic process ...

Sodium Ascorbate‐Accelerated Gelling Hydrogels With Rapid Self‐Mineralized Capacity for Chronic Wounds

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An immunoregulatory hydrogel based on sodium ascorbate (SA)‐accelerated gelation and in situ self‐mineralization is prepared here. Such a hydrogel is constructed by mixing benzaldehyde‐ and cyanoacetate‐functionalized dextran with silver nitrate (AgNO3) and SA, enabling the ultrafast solidification and in situ self‐mineralization of silver ...

Effect of Substance P in Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis virulence: Implication for skin homeostasis

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2016
Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis are two major skin associated bacteria, and Substance P (SP) is a major skin neuropeptide. Since bacteria are known to sense and response to many human hormones, we investigated the effects of SP on ...

A Sprayable Nanoplatform Breaks the Vicious Cycle of Diabetic Wounds via Photoactivated Antioxidant and Drug Delivery

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A sprayable near‐infrared‐activated nanoplatform incorporating MXene, ZnHCF nanozyme, and deferoxamine efficiently breaks the vicious cycle of diabetic wounds. Upon irradiation, interfacial electron transfer and photothermal effects enhance multi‐enzyme activity, enabling explosive ROS elimination, alleviation of hypoxia, and controlled DFO release ...

De Novo Design of Membrane‐Targeting Antimicrobial Peptides Against Gram‐Negative Bacteria Using a Generative Artificial Intelligence Framework

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Antimicrobial resistance caused by Gram‐negative bacteria remains difficult to overcome due to the protective outer membrane. To address this challenge, a multi‐condition constrained generative AI framework, GenMTAMP is proposed for de novo membrane‐targeting antimicrobial peptide design by integrating physicochemical and spatial structure descriptors.

Concentrations of Staphylococcus species in indoor air as associated with other bacteria, season, relative humidity, air change rate, and S. aureus-positive occupants

open access: yesEnvironmental Research, 2018
The aim of this study was to obtain knowledge about concentrations of Staphylococcus aureus, MRSA (methicillin-resistant S. aureus), and other Staphylococcus species in indoor air in Greater Copenhagen and about factors affecting the concentrations. The effects of season, temperature, relative humidity, air change rate (ACR), other bacterial genera ...

Microblasting Wound Dressings Mechanically Disrupt Polymicrobial Biofilms to Enhance Healing in Treatment‐Resistant Wounds

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Treatment‐resistant wounds caused by polymicrobial biofilms are refractory to conventional therapies due to the dense extracellular matrices. We developed μBLAST, a microblasting wound dressing that combines MnO2‐doped biosilica and a H2O2‐releasing mesh to generate localized oxygen microbubbles that mechanically disrupt biofilms.

The Toxin-Antitoxin MazEF Drives Staphylococcus aureus Biofilm Formation, Antibiotic Tolerance, and Chronic Infection

open access: yesmBio, 2019
Staphylococcus aureus is the major organism responsible for surgical implant infections. Antimicrobial treatment of these infections often fails, leading to expensive surgical intervention and increased risk of mortality to the patient.
