Dissecting Microscopic Colitis Immunopathophysiology: Insights From Basic Research

open access: yesUnited European Gastroenterology Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Microscopic colitis is an inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) comprising two clinically undiscernible entities: collagenous colitis and lymphocytic colitis. Collagenous colitis associates with HLA genes and displays a Th1/Tc1–Th17/Tc17 profile with pericryptal myofibroblast activity, water malabsorption and secondary fluid loss due to altered ...

Gut Microbiota as a Mediator Between Intestinal Fibrosis and Creeping Fat in Crohn's Disease

open access: yesUnited European Gastroenterology Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Intestinal stricture remains one of the most challenging complications in Crohn's disease, and its underlying mechanisms are poorly understood. Accumulating evidence suggests that gut microbiota is significantly altered in stenotic intestines and may play a key role in the development of fibrogenesis in Crohn's disease.

Patient and First‐Degree Relatives Perceptions About Prediction and Prevention of Inflammatory Bowel Disease—A Multinational Survey

open access: yesUnited European Gastroenterology Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background and Objective While significant advances have been made in identifying biomarkers for predicting inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) onset, little is known about the willingness of at‐risk individuals to undergo predictive testing and preventive interventions.

Cooperative Function of Atg8‐ and TORC1‐Mediated Activities in Yeast

open access: yesYeast, EarlyView.
The atg8Δ mutant is sensitive to rapamycin, and both lipidation‐dependent and ‐independent functions of Atg8 are necessary for survival during impaired TORC1 activity. Atg8‐ and TORC1‐mediated functions may contribute to maintaining vacuolar functions.

Taxogenomic Analysis of a Novel Yeast Species, Lachancea rosae Sp. Nov. F.A., Isolated From the Wild Rose Rosa californica

open access: yesYeast, EarlyView.
The discovery, description, and taxogenomic analysis of a novel species of Lachancea revealed correlations between gene content and carbon and nitrogen physiological assays. ABSTRACT A novel Saccharomycotina yeast strain, yHQL494, was isolated from the rose hip of the wild rose Rosa californica from Castle Crags State Park, California, USA ...

Quantifying the correlation between variance components: An extension to the double‐hierarchical generalised linear model

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, EarlyView.
Abstract The variational properties of biological systems are an increasing focus of current research, and statistical methods are required for drawing inferences about the processes that determine them. Double‐hierarchical generalised linear models (DHGLM) are ideally suited for studying variational properties since they provide a direct way of ...
