Preliminary analysis of microsatellite markers derived from sugarcane expressed sequence tags (ESTs)

open access: yesGenetics and Molecular Biology, 2001
Expressed sequence tags (ESTs) in the sugarcane (Saccharum spp) database (SUCEST) were electronically searched and 402 microsatellites identified. Various dinucleotide and trinucleotide simple sequence repeat (SSR) motifs were found, with these being ...

Six Decades of Forest Inventory Data Highlight Decline of Sugar Maple (Acer saccharum) Sapling Abundance in Eastern Canada

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 5, May 2025.
Approximate (±10 km) geographic location of the 390 plots among the Atlantic Highlands, Mixedwood Plains, and Boreal Shield ecozones of eastern Canada. Six decades of forest inventory data showed a significant decline in the relative abundance of sugar maple (Acer saccharum) saplings between 1970 and 2022.

All the light we cannot see: Climate manipulations leave short and long‐term imprints in spectral reflectance of trees

open access: yesEcology, Volume 106, Issue 5, May 2025.
Abstract Anthropogenic climate change, particularly changes in temperature and precipitation, affects plants in multiple ways. Because plants respond dynamically to stress and acclimate to changes in growing conditions, diagnosing quantitative plant‐environment relationships is a major challenge.

The Sugarcane genome sequencing effort: An overview of the strategy, goals and existing data : [Abstract W538] [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Sugarcane is a major feedstock used for biofuel production worldwide. Sugarcane cultivars (Saccharum spp) are derived from interspecific hybridization obtained a century ago by crossing Saccharum officinarum (2n=8x=80) and S.
