Prevalence of Intestinal Parasites in Captive Asian Elephants (Elephas maximus Linnaeus, 1758) in Central Nepal

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 11, Issue 3, May 2025.
Gastrointestinal parasites (GIPs) are determining factors in the health of Asian Elephants. The current coproscopic study recorded 95.2% prevalence rates with 19 different GIPs from these animals. The major risk factors could be overlapping niches with domestic and wild animals, irregular medication and the existence of critical stressors. .

Temporal and Spatial Dynamics of Soil Carbon Cycling and Its Response to Environmental Change in a Northern Hardwood Forest

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology, Volume 31, Issue 5, May 2025.
Over 50 years of soil radiocarbon measurements from a hardwood forest in the northeastern USA show that carbon in soil litter cycles much faster than carbon in mineral soil (0–10 cm)—on the scale of years versus centuries. While soil carbon appears stable at the watershed scale, the litter layer is recently losing carbon at the site scale, suggesting ...

Bioenergy Production From Sugarcane Straw: Implications for Soil‐Related Ecosystem Services

open access: yesGCB Bioenergy, Volume 17, Issue 5, May 2025.
Sugarcane straw removal for bioenergy production is a promising pathway for decarbonization. However, its indiscriminate removal may negatively impact soil‐related ecosystem services (SES) and compromise the sustainability of bioenergy production. Our study evaluated 1024 pairwise comparisons to determine the effect and confidence level of three straw ...

Fluorescence in situ hybridization in sugarcane or fish-ing in the genomic wilderness. [MO06] [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Cytogenetics applied to sugarcane has brought our fundamental understanding of the sugarcane genome to a new level. In the mid-nineties, Genomic in situ Hybridisation (GISH) was first applied to sugarcane to determine the specific composition of the ...

Pest categorisation of Selenaspidus articulatus

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 23, Issue 5, May 2025.
Abstract Following the commodity risk assessment of Jasminum polyanthum unrooted cuttings from Uganda, in which Selenaspidus articulatus (Hemiptera: Diaspididae) was identified as a pest of possible concern, the European Commission requested the EFSA Panel on Plant Health to conduct a pest categorisation of S.
