Cryopreservation of sugarcane embryogenic callus using a simplified freezing process [PDF]
A simplified freezing process was developed and successfully applied to embryogenic calluses of three sugarcane commercial hybrids (Saccharum sp. cv. CP 5243, C 91-301 and C 1051-73). To obtain optimal survival, the calluses were pretreated with a cryoprotective solution containing 10% DMSO and 0.3 to 0.75M sucrose.

Stand Dynamics and Disturbance History of Champlain Valley Clayplain Forests [PDF]
Studies of stand dynamics can explain how species interactions and disturbances drive forest structure and recruitment patterns of tree species. It is difficult to generate an understanding of stand dynamics and successional trends of forests in areas ...

Morphometric analysis of the Saccharum complex (Poaceae, Andropogoneae) [PDF]
Saccharum s.l. comprises 35–40 species, including sugarcane (S. officinarum), and is distributed in the tropics and subtropics. The term “Saccharum complex” refers to four related genera: Saccharum, Erianthus s.l. (including E. sect.

The Antiviral Activity of Polyphenols
Polyphenols demonstrate remarkable antiviral properties by effectively disrupting multiple biochemical processes essential for viral replication. ABSTRACT Polyphenols are secondary metabolites produced by a large variety of plants. These compounds that comprise the class of phenolic acids, stilbenes, lignans, coumarins, flavonoids, and tannins have a ...

Mining sequence variations in representative polyploid sugarcane germplasm accessions
Background Sugarcane (Saccharum spp.) is one of the most important economic crops because of its high sugar production and biofuel potential. Due to the high polyploid level and complex genome of sugarcane, it has been a huge challenge to investigate ...

Modern sugarcane cultivars (Saccharum spp., 2n = 100~120) are complex polyploids primarily derived from interspecific hybridization between S. officinarum and S. spontaneum. Nobilization is the theory of utilizing wild germplasm in sugarcane breeding, and is the foundation for utilizing S. spontaneum for stress resistance.
