Estimated repair and maintenance cost of sugarcane (Saccharum spp.) harvester

open access: yesCientífica, 2017
Brazil is the largest sugarcane producer worldwide. Harvester’s repair and maintenance cost is high, and it is more representative than that of fuel. Equipment maintenance costs mainly comprise spare parts, third-party services and manpower. In addition, it is also closely related to the intense use of the equipment and to the increased mechanized ...

Protocol for selecting orange rust resistant sugarcane cultivars by artificial inoculation in greenhouse

open access: yesBiotecnología Vegetal, 2017
Orange rust [Puccinia kuehnii (W. Kruger) E. J. Butler] from sugarcane (Saccharum spp.) is a disease of potential importance for Cuban sugarcane farming. However, under natural conditions, the presence of symptoms has not maintained stability in the foci

Potential for genetic improvement of sugarcane as a source of biomass for biofuels [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Sugarcane (Saccharum spp. hybrids) has great potential as a major feedstock for biofuel production worldwide. It is considered among the best options for producing biofuels today due to an exceptional biomass production capacity, high carbohydrate (sugar

Sequencing vs. amplification for the estimation of allele dosages in sugarcane (Saccharum spp.)

open access: yesApplications in Plant Sciences
AbstractPremiseDetecting single‐nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in a cost‐effective way is fundamental in any plant breeding pipeline. Here, we compare three genotyping techniques for their ability to reproduce the allele dosage of SNPs of interest in sugarcane (Saccharum spp.).MethodsTo identify a reproducible technique to estimate allele dosage for ...

Leakage radiation microscopy of surface plasmon polaritons [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2010
We review the principle and methodology of leakage radiation microscopy (LRM) applied to surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs). Therefore we first analyse in detail the electromagnetic theory of leaky SPP waves. We show that LRM is a versatile optical far-field method allowing direct quantitative imaging and analysis of SPP propagation on thin metal films.
