The electrophysiology of the saccule

Pflugers Archiv European Journal of Physiology, 1972
The Na+ concentration in saccular endolymph in guinea pigs was measured and found to be 3.2±0.6 mEqu/l with sodium specific electrodes. The saccular potential varied between −8 and +2.4 mV. Permanent anoxia resulting in the death of the animal caused the potential to fall by 15 mV and the Na+ concentration to rise to 40 mEqu/l in 30 min. Maintenance of

The cholinergic pharmacology of the frog saccule

Hearing Research, 1994
Stimulation of the efferent nerves to the vestibular organs of the frog's inner ear produces either facilitation or inhibition of afferent firing. Similarly, application of acetylcholine (ACH), the major transmitter of the efferents, can produce both facilitation and/or inhibition as previously reported [Guth et al. (1986) Acta Otolaryngol.

Sacculation of the uterus

American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1963
Abstract A case of sacculation of the uterus has been described. Actual photographs of a uterus with a sacculation has been presented. An attempt has been made to differentiate the terms "sacculation" and "diverticulum" as they apply to the pregnant uterus. It is our thesis that sacculations are due to functional malformations of the uterus.

The saccule and gravity

The Journal of Laryngology & Otology
Abstract Background The important role of the saccule is the sensing of gravity. In other words, gravity always stimulates the macula of the saccule. Objectives The aim of this study was to clarify whether nystagmus ...

The diagnosis of anal sacculitis in the dog

Journal of Small Animal Practice, 1976
ABSTRACTA new approach to diagnosis is described based on behavioural signs of which some twenty are listed. Fixation licking, starting at the rump and asymmetrical sitting are among signs added to the existing commonly accepted ones such as ‘scooting’.

Sacculation of the Small Intestine in Scleroderma

Radiology, 1972
Sacculationin the small intestine was demonstrated radiographically in 8 of 10 patients with scleroderma, indicating that this is a far more frequent occurrence than heretofore supposed. The authors present a case report and review of the literature.

The laryngeal saccule: Clinical significance

Clinical Anatomy, 2011
AbstractThe association between the laryngeal saccule and a laryngocele is an important clinical relationship. Here, we describe this and other clinical correlations of the saccule including infection and carcinoma and suggest that these should be discussed in medical gross anatomy courses.

The experimental reproduction of anal sacculitis

Journal of Small Animal Practice, 1976
ABSTRACTTwelve dogs were used in a series of three experiments designed to simulate the assumed mechanism of initiation of anal sacculitis: infection, impaction and abscessation. The disease was reproduced by inoculation of the sacs with a mixture of Streptococcus faecalis, Escherichia coli and Clostridium welchii in broth, both with and without ...
