Study on the Splash Zone Corrosion Protection of Carbon Steel by Sacrificial Anode

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrochemical Science, 2012
The reason that sacrificial anode can not work properly in the area of splashed zone is that there is no stable electrolytes around the metalwork to enable the anode to function.

Variable Stiffness Flexure Structures Enabled by Phase‐Change Gallium and Adhesive Interfacial Locking for Soft Robotic Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A flexure‐based variable stiffness structure is developed by integrating phase‐change modulation and adhesive interfacial locking of gallium. The design enables a wide stiffness variability, transitioning from soft, flexible behavior to rigid, load‐supporting performance.

Sacrifical sites, types and function

open access: yesScripta Instituti Donneriani Aboensis, 1987
Much has been written and said about Saami mythology and pre-Christian religion. There is, however, considerably less documentation of concrete cultural elements in scholarly descriptions.

Is an Apple an Orange? A Large Language Model Benchmark for Candidate Term Extraction and Subclass Decisions Against Upper Ontologies in Engineering and Materials Science

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Building machine‐readable vocabularies for materials science is slow, expert‐driven work. This study benchmarks 13 large language models on two of its first steps: finding candidate terms in engineering articles and deciding where they belong in a class hierarchy.

Modular Design of Programmable Mechanofluorescent DNA Hydrogels

open access: yesNature Communications, 2019
Mechanosensitive materials typically lack complex response patterns due to difficult synthetic methods. Here, the authors introduce FRET-based DNA tension probes into macroscopic 3D DNA hydrogels to prepare mechanofluorescent materials with programmable ...

Sacrificial Polymers for Rapid Manufacturing of Vascular Materials

open access: yes, 2019
Conventional vascularization methods for making multifunctional composites are limited by time and energy-intensive processes. Exothermic curing of the host matrix with simultaneous degradation of the sacrificial polymer enables rapid manufacturing of vascular polymers and composites.

Machine Learning‐Supported Analysis for Predicting and Visualizing Nonlinear Relationships Between Material Properties in Electroplated Chromium Layers

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study applies machine learning regression to predict chromium layer thickness in decorative trivalent chromium electroplating, using 441 experiments from laboratory‐scale (1L) and pilot‐scale (14L) setups. Tree‐based models, particularly CatBoost, outperformed linear regression by capturing nonlinear parameter interactions (R2$R^2$ up to 0.77 ...

The Improvement for the Electrochemical Performances of LiNi1/3Co1/3Mn1/3O2 Cathode Materials for Lithium-ion Batteries by both the Al-doping and an Advanced Synthetic Method

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrochemical Science, 2019
The Al-doped LiNi1/3Mn1/3Co1/3-xAlxO2(x=0, 0.01, 0.03, 0.05) cathode materials have been successfully synthesized via a simple template-sacrificial method with MnO2 as the sacrificial template. The structure and properties of the as-obtained samples were
