Grandpa, Grandpa, Tell Me the One About Bitcoin Being a Safe Haven: New Evidence From the COVID-19 Pandemic

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics, 2020
Bitcoin being a safe-haven asset is one of the traditional stories in the cryptocurrency community. However, during its existence and relevant presence, i.e., approximately since 2013, there has been no severe situation on the financial markets globally ...

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

Global uncertainty and potential shelters: gold, bitcoin, and currencies as weak and strong safe havens for main world stock markets

open access: yesFinancial Innovation
This article investigates five safe-haven asset responses from 2014 to 2022, including the unprecedented COVID-19 crisis, Russian invasion of Ukraine, and sharp US interest rate increases of 2015 and 2022. We apply the unique approach of the multivariate

Spatial and single‐nuclei transcriptomics reveals idiosyncratic and generic patterns in papillary and anaplastic thyroid cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Matched spatial transcriptomics and single‐nuclei RNA‐seq were generated for anaplastic and BRAFV600E papillary thyroid cancers revealing generic and tumor‐specific states occurring in cancer cells and in the tumor microenvironment. In this context, cancer dedifferentiation mirrored organoid maturation through ordered thyroid marker gain/loss ...

Treatment with KCL‐286, a first‐in‐class retinoic acid receptor‐β (RARβ) agonist, ameliorates neuronal DNA damage and inflammation in a mouse model of Alzheimer's disease

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Repair of neuronal DNA damage in Alzheimer's disease by KCL‐286. (A) Amyloid‐β oligomers and plaques impair neuronal DNA repair pathways, leading to DNA double‐strand breaks and glial activation. (B) KCL‐286 activates RARβ/RXR signalling via retinoic acid response elements (RAREs), associated with increased BRCA1 expression, enhanced DNA repair and ...

Identification of (20R)‐protopanaxadiol from Panax ginseng as a novel anti‐SARS‐CoV‐2 compound

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We established a noninfectious BAC‐based SARS‐CoV‐2 replicon that enables antiviral screening under BSL‐2 conditions. Using this platform, we screened 373 food‐derived compounds and identified (20R)‐protopanaxadiol from Panax ginseng as a novel inhibitor of SARS‐CoV‐2 RNA replication, highlighting the value of safe replicon systems for antiviral ...

Safe Haven Ability of Energy and Agricultural Commodities Against G7 Stock Markets and Banking Indices During COVID-19, Russia–Ukraine War, and SVB Collapse: Evidence From the Wavelet Coherence Approach

open access: yesDiscrete Dynamics in Nature and Society
This article assesses the hedging and safe haven properties of energy and agricultural commodities (crude oil, natural gas, and wheat) against the G7 stock market indices and banking sector stock indices during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Russia–Ukraine ...

Safe Haven Currencies [PDF]

open access: yesReview of Finance, 2009
Abstract We study high-frequency exchange rates over the period 1993–2008. Based on the recent literature on volatility and liquidity risk premia, we use a factor model to capture linear and non-linear linkages between currencies, stock and bond markets as well as proxies for market volatility and liquidity. We document that the Swiss

Mutant NPM1 in Acute Myeloid Leukemia Initiation and Maintenance

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
NPM1 mutations drive acute myeloid leukemia by acting as neomorphic transcriptional regulators that cooperate with Menin–MLL and XPO1 to sustain HOX/MEIS1 expression and block differentiation. Targeting these mutant‐specific transcriptional dependencies provides a rational therapeutic strategy for NPM1‐mutated AML.
