Children and the internet: An exploration of Year 5 pupils’ online experiences and perceptions of risk [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The internet is becoming increasingly integral to children’s lives. Consequently, it is vital that children are educated in how to protect themselves online and how to become responsible online users. This action research study addresses significant gaps

Ambient Light‐Activatable Luminescent Particle‐Embedded Conformal Patch for Photochemical Tissue Bonding and Photobiomodulated Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We report a wearable photonic patch integrating room light‐ and sunlight‐activatable luminescent particles (RSLPs) for both photochemical tissue bonding and photobiomodulation. RSLPs harvest ambient light and emit red luminescence to drive chlorin e6–mediated collagen crosslinking.

Fighting Disinformation Online: The Digital Services Act in the American Context

open access: yesSocial Sciences
The internet is one of humanity’s most significant creations in the modern era. What began roughly 30 years ago has developed into a rich, diverse, but largely unregulated environment we can no longer live without.

The Men's Safer Sex (MenSS) trial: protocol for a pilot randomised controlled trial of an interactive digital intervention to increase condom use in men. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Sexually transmitted infections (STI) are a major public health problem. Condoms provide effective protection but there are many barriers to use. Face-to-face health promotion interventions are resource-intensive and show mixed results.

Multimodal Haptic Perception Through Synergistic Nanocomposite Sensor Arrays

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Multi‐modal fingertip haptics are advanced through a bioinspired &vertical‐via' electronic skin architecture. A confined PDMS/MWCNT/NiNP nanocomposite, sitting at the percolation threshold, enables tactile, thermal, and magnetic sensing. A unique via‐density gradient and dedicated &Un‐Touch' reference nodes provide robust spatial resolution and signal ...

Testing and Simulation of Multilayer Polyvinylidene Fluoride‐Based Piezoelectric Energy Harvester Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
The study considers the use of polymer/dielectric‐based multilayers piezoelectric Energy Harvesters (EH) to produce an output voltage and current, by exploiting the mechanical energy provided by human organs movements. In particular, the heart motion is considered from the kinematic viewpoint, and a multiphysics theoretical model is developed to assess

Soft Robotic Snake with Tunable Undulatory Gait for Efficient Underwater Locomotion

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This study designs an underwater soft snake robot using 3D‐printed soft actuators, controlled by specific signals to generate sinusoidal undulation. Results show a positive correlation between speed and swing amplitude, with optimal performance at 2/3π phase offset, PLA tail, 1.2 voltage growth rate, and 6s undulation period achieving a maximum speed ...

The Future of Research in Cognitive Robotics: Foundation Models or Developmental Cognitive Models?

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Research in cognitive robotics founded on principles of developmental psychology and enactive cognitive science would yield what we seek in autonomous robots: the ability to perceive its environment, learn from experience, anticipate the outcome of events, act to pursue goals, and adapt to changing circumstances without resorting to training with ...

Grounding Large Language Models for Robot Task Planning Using Closed‐Loop State Feedback

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
BrainBody‐Large Language Model (LLM) introduces a hierarchical, feedback‐driven planning framework where two LLMs coordinate high‐level reasoning and low‐level control for robotic tasks. By grounding decisions in real‐time state feedback, it reduces hallucinations and improves task reliability.
