Map-Guided Curriculum Domain Adaptation and Uncertainty-Aware Evaluation for Semantic Nighttime Image Segmentation

open access: yes, 2021
We address the problem of semantic nighttime image segmentation and improve the state-of-the-art, by adapting daytime models to nighttime without using nighttime annotations.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Developmental and reproductive toxicity assessment of sporoderm-removed Ganoderma lucidum spores

open access: yesFrontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology
IntroductionGanoderma lucidum is a fungus used in traditional Chinese medicine with high medicinal value and is also widely used in modern healthcare. Its spores are reported to contain antitumor and anti-inflammatory properties, among other biological ...

Exploratory study into a safety format for composite columns exposed to fire [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Current performance based structural fire engineering approaches evaluate structural behaviour under prescribed fire scenarios. The mechanical properties of the materials, the load conditions and geometric parameters are all however fraught with ...

Function‐driven design of a surrogate interleukin‐2 receptor ligand

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Interleukin (IL)‐2 signaling can be achieved and precisely fine‐tuned through the affinity, distance, and orientation of the heterodimeric receptors with their ligands. We designed a biased IL‐2 surrogate ligand that selectively promotes effector T and natural killer cell activation and differentiation. Interleukin (IL) receptors play a pivotal role in

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

Bio-distribution and toxicity potential of human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells in cynomolgus monkeys

open access: yesScientific Reports
Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have demonstrated promising advantages in the therapies of many diseases, while its multi-directional differentiation potential and immunotoxicity are the major concerns hindered their clinical translation.
