Development and Population Growth Rates of Sitophilus zeamais (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) Exposed to a Sublethal Concentration of Essential Oil of Piper hispidinervum [PDF]

open access: yesInsects
Essential oils have emerged as promising alternatives for pest insect control. However, sublethal effects on insect reproduction and development are rarely explored, despite their relevance to integrated pest management (IPM).

Chemical composition, circadian rhythm and antibacterial activity of essential oils of piper divaricatum: a new source of safrole [PDF]

open access: yesQuímica Nova, 2012
The essential oils from leaves, stems and fruits of Piper divaricatum were analyzed by GC-MS. The tissues showed high safrole content: leaves (98%), fruits (87%) and stems (83%), with yields of 2.0, 4.8 and 1.7%, respectively.

Photosynthesis of dimeric cinnamaldehyde, eugenol, and safrole as antimicrobial agents [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Saudi Chemical Society, 2011
It has been reported that trans-cinnamaldehyde, eugenol and safrole inhibited bacteria and fungi growth in vivo mode. In order to improve their biological activity, dimeric cinnamaldehyde, eugenol and safrole have been photosynthesized.

Enhancement of the antibiotic activity mediated by the essential oil of Ocotea odorifera (VELL) ROWHER and safrole association

open access: yesJournal of Infection and Public Health, 2022
In a recent study, our research group demonstrated that the essential oil of Ocotea odorifera (EOOO) and its major compound safrole potentiated the action fluoroquinolones, modulating bacterial resistance possibly due to direct inhibition of efflux pumps.
