Morphometric Analysis of Sagittal Otoliths in Coruh Trout (Salmo coruhensis Turan, Kottelat & Engin, 2010)

open access: yesJournal of Anatolian Environmental and Animal Sciences, 2021
The Coruh trout (Salmo coruhensis Turan, Kottelat & Engin, 2010) is a freshwater fish species endemic to Turkey. This study describes the allometric relationships between sagittal otolith (sagitta) measurements and total length (TL) of the Coruh trout collected from the Çam stream (Artvin, Turkey), and the length-weight relationship.

Ontogenetic development of the sagittal otolith of the anchovy, Anchoa tricolor, in a subtropical estuary

open access: yesScientia Marina, 2015
In order to characterize the ontogeny of Anchoa tricolor, the morphology and morphometry of sagitta otoliths were described. A total of 397 pairs of sagitta otoliths of A. tricolor (20 to 85 mm) were measured and analysed by means of digital images. Morphological description was done in terms of shape and features.

An approach to unraveling the coexistence of snappers (Lutjanidae) using otolith morphology

open access: yesScientia Marina, 2014
The sagittae otolith morphology of marine fishes has been used in many ecomorphological studies to explain certain ecological adaptations of species to habitat. Our study compares the sagittal otolith shapes of ten species of snappers (Family Lutjanidae)

The Sagittal Otolith Morphology Observations of Sturgeon Species in Iranian Waters of the Caspian Sea [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Morphology, 2018
SUMMARY: The morphology of the sagittal otolith of Great sturgeon (Huso huso), Persian sturgeon (Acipenser persicus) and starry sturgeon (Acipenser stellatus) species from the Iranian waters of the Caspian Sea were studied. Three otolith measurements and three shape indices were recorded from 90 sturgeon specimens.

A preliminary study on the age and growth of the argentine, Argentina sphyraena (Actinopterygii: Osmeriformes: Argentinidae) from the eastern Adriatic Sea [PDF]

open access: yesActa Ichthyologica et Piscatoria, 2017
Background. Age determination is a basic step in understanding fish biology and dynamics of fish populations. The only available data on the age and growth of argentine, Argentina sphyraena Linnaeus, 1758, a non-commercially exploited species of the ...

Discrimination of species and populations of the genus Cichla (Cichliformes: Cichlidae) in rivers of the Amazon basin using otolithic morphometry

open access: yesNeotropical Ichthyology, 2021
The genus Cichla is a highly diverse group, with 16 species already described. Externally, some species are very similar and discriminating between them may be very difficult.

Study Of Fish Layang Otolith, Decapterus akaadsi, Abe 1958 from Amurang Bay

open access: yesJurnal Ilmiah Platax, 2018
Fish otolith is a product of biomineralization in the fish body. In several studies, otolith ha been used to estimate fish age that is a crucial parameter to describe fish population and sustainable management of the fish stock.

Fully-automated identification of fish species based on otolith contour: using short-time Fourier transform and discriminant analysis (STFT-DA) [PDF]

open access: yesPeerJ, 2016
Background. Fish species may be identified based on their unique otolith shape or contour. Several pattern recognition methods have been proposed to classify fish species through morphological features of the otolith contours.

Queen triggerfish Balistes vetula: Validation of otolith-based age, growth, and longevity estimates via application of bomb radiocarbon.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2022
Ensuring the accuracy of age estimation in fisheries science through validation is an essential step in managing species for long-term sustainable harvest. The current study used Δ14 C in direct validation of age estimation for queen triggerfish Balistes

Sagittal Otolith Morphology of Sharpsnout Seabream Diplodus puntazzo (Walbaum, 1792) in the Aegean Sea [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Morphology, 2016
