DEMODICOSIS IN RED-HANDED TAMARINS (SAGUINUS MIDAS)
Journal of Zoo and Wildlife Medicine, 2000Two nonrelated but paired red-handed tamarins (Saguinus midas) presented with diffuse, multifocal, raised, nonpruritic, hyperkeratotic lesions on the appendages and face. Skin biopsies identified acarids and skin scrapings confirmed demodex-like mites.

MYCOBACTERIUM ASIATICUM INFECTION IN A RED-HANDED TAMARIN (SAGUINUS MIDAS)
Journal of Zoo and Wildlife Medicine, 2006A 4-yr-old, intact male red-handed tamarin (Saguinus midas) was evaluated because of a 6-mo history of an enlarging axillary mass. Diagnostic findings included a positive intradermal tuberculin test, persistent severe leukocytosis, and hyperglobulinemia.

Colour discrimination learning in black-handed tamarin ( Saguinus midas niger )
Primates, 2003Colour is one cue that monkeys use for perceptual segregation of targets and to identify food resources. For fruit-eating primates such as Saguinus, an accurate colour perception would be advantageous to help find ripe fruits at distance. The colour vision abilities of black-handed tamarins ( Saguinus midas niger) were assessed through a discrimination

Acta Physiologica Scandinavica, 1976
AbstractA comparative electrophysiological and behavioural study has been made in 17 closely related monkeys of the new world species, Saguinus midas tamarin. The electrical activity in the chorda tympani proper nerve of two of the monkeys was recorded during the application to the tongues of 0.02% monellin and thaumatin, 0.5 % miraculin and stimuli ...

Grasping Performance in Saguinus midas and the Evolution of Hand Prehensility in Primates
1998The Order Primates is characterized by a unique suite of cranial and postcranial features that may have evolved for visual predation on insects or exploitation of fruits in a small-branch milieu [see Cartmill (1992) for recent review]. Compared to more generalized mammals like tree shrews, primates possess a relatively larger brain with a more ...

The diet of Saguinus midas is characterised by analysis of stomach contents samples on an annual and seasonal basis. The diet comprises significant proportions of both fruit and insects all year round, although fruit use shows important seasonal variations.

The Banded Karyotype of Saguinus midas tamarin Link, 1795 (Callitrichidae, Primates)
Folia Primatologica, 1977The karyotype of Saguinus midas tamarin (2n = 46) is presented. By G-banding all individual chromosome pairs are easily identifiable.

Sibling Age and Intragroup Aggression in Captive Saguinus midas midas
International Journal of Primatology, 2003Different species of Callitrichidae show a consistent pattern in intragroup aggression. Aggression is more frequent between same-sex individuals, with males and older siblings being more aggressive. These findings have been associated with reproductive competition and dispersal events.
