Mathematical Hull Design for Sailing Yachts

SNAME 5th Chesapeake Sailing Yacht Symposium, 1981
Mathematical representations of hull surface shape have largely supplanted graphical fairing and lofting of lines in the shipbuilding and aircraft industries, but have had little application so far to small craft. Past methods of hull design are surveyed to put mathematical design into historical perspective and point up its many advantages.

Sailing Yacht Design for Maximum Speed

SNAME 16th Chesapeake Sailing Yacht Symposium, 2003
This paper reviews the performance of ice and land yachts and the factors that determine their top speeds. The data clarify a century of misunderstanding about top iceboat speeds and serve as background for discussing the design and performance of the author.s land yacht, the Iron Duck.

Electronic Instruments and Computers for Sailing Yachts

Journal of Navigation, 1970
This paper contains a brief survey of a series of instruments which have been developed for use in sailing yachts. It then outlines the principles of two computers; one navigational, the other for sailing performance indication. It does not cover radio navigational aids, echo sounding or radar. The data requirements are: 1.

Unsteady Upwind Aerodynamics of a Sailing Yacht

Journal of Sailing Technology
_ Sail aerodynamics has been a researched topic since the start of competitive racing, such as the America's Cup and Whitbread Round the World Race. Recently, with restrictions on the use of wind tunnels and towing tanks in the America's Cup, there has been an increase in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to study ...
