On the Saint-Venant torsion of composite bars with imperfect interfaces

Proceedings of the Royal Society A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences, 2001
An important extension of Saint-Venant's theory on torsion is the case in which the cross-section of the cylinder is not homogeneous, but contains some subregions of different materials in its interior. Here the classical theory still applies, but with the difference that now the warping function undergoes discontinuities at the interfaces between the ...

Mixed isoparametric elements for saint-venant torsion

Computer Methods in Applied Mechanics and Engineering, 1975
Mixed isoparametric elements are presented for the Saint-Venant torsion problem of laminated and anisotropic bars. Both triangular and quadrilateral elements are considered. The 'generalized' element stiffness matrix is obtained by using a modified form of the Hellinger-Reissner mixed variational principle.

Saint-Venant’s Principle and the Torsion of Thin Shells of Revolution

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1976
This paper is concerned with obtaining stress estimates for the problem of axisymmetric torsion of thin elastic shells of revolution subject to self-equilibrated end loads. The results are obtained in the form of explicit pointwise stress bounds exhibiting an exponential decay with distance from the ends, thus supplying a quantitative characterization ...

Saint-Venant torsion of non-homogeneous orthotropic circular cylinder [PDF]

open access: yesArchive of Applied Mechanics, 2019
AbstractThe object of this paper is the Saint-Venant torsion of a radially non-homogeneous, hollow and solid circular cylinder made of orthotropic piezoelectric material. The elastic stiffness coefficients, piezoelectric constants and dielectric constants have only radial dependence. This paper gives the solution of the Saint-Venant torsion problem for

A finite element solution for Saint-Venant torsion

AIAA Journal, 1969
Summary: A solution of the Saint-Venant Torsion Problem is developed using the finite element method. Difficulties with multiply-connected regions are completely avoided by the introduction of a force variable that explicitly defines any traction-free boundary.

On Saint-Venant's principle and the torsion of solids of revolution

Archive for Rational Mechanics and Analysis, 1966
Although a comprehensive review of the literature on SAINT-VENANT'S principle in the linearized equilibrium theory of elastic solids would serve a useful purpose, such a survey is clearly beyond the scope of these introductory remarks. The principle was originally introduced by SAINT-VENANT in connection with, and with limitation to, the problem ...

Saint-Venant torsion of cylindrical orthotropic elliptical cross section

Mechanics Research Communications, 2019
Abstract This paper deals with the Saint-Venant torsion of elastic cylindrical orthotropic solid elliptical cross section. The origin of the cylindrical anisotropy coincides with the centroid of the elliptical cross section. By the use of principle of minimum of potential energy and principle of minimum of complementary energy approximate analytical ...

Torsional Moments and Member Rotation for Saint-Venant Torsion

1969
In the previous two chapters, the torsionai moment T acting on a cross section was assumed to be known. The determination of this torsionai moment T along the length of a member, however, is a problem of structural analysis to which various chapters of this book will be devoted.
