Elastic Energy Storage in Biological Materials: Internal Stresses and Their Functionality

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Harnessing and storing internally generated elastic energy is a clever strategy by biological materials to perform functions like shape transformation, movement, and predation. This review explores how biological systems manipulate mechanisms like atomic or protein integration into minerals, protein conformational shifts, phase transitions, and osmotic

Zinc‐Coordinated Trienzyme Nanogel Cascade Therapy for Accelerated Post‐Pancreatectomy Cutaneous Wound Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A zinc‐coordinated nanogel assembly is reported that co‐delivers three enzymes to regulate glucose, oxidative stress, and oxygen levels. This system mimics natural enzyme cascades to reprogram the wound environment after pancreatectomy. In a post‐pancreatectomy mouse model, it accelerates healing by reducing infection, promoting blood vessel growth ...

Self-Employment Transitions among Older American Workers with Career Jobs [PDF]

open access: yes
What role does self-employment play in the retirement process? Older Americans are staying in the labor force longer than prior trends would have predicted and many change jobs later in life.

Interface‐Induced Stability of Nontrivial Topological Spin Textures: Unveiling Room‐Temperature Hopfions and Skyrmions

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The first room‐temperature, zero‐field observation of stable skyrmion–hopfion spin textures in EuS─Bi2Se3─EuS trilayers is reported. Combining Lorentz TEM imaging and micromagnetic modeling, the authors unveil how interfacial Dzyaloshinskii–Moriya interaction and geometric confinement stabilize these multidimensional topological states.

Do Higher Salaries Buy Better Teachers? [PDF]

open access: yes
Important policy decisions rest on the relationship between teacher salaries and the quality of teachers, but the evidence about the strength of any such relationship is thin.
